Recently purchased a used 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit , 56,600 mi from a used police car dealer in Illinois. I liked the body style of that year's Charger and I recently had to part with my 2006 Dodge Charger, so I bought this to replace it. Almost immediately, the smell of raw gas was being noticed in the cabin, more so with the windows up. Smell was never overwhelming but always noticeable and I became concerned about breathing fuel fumes. I took it to a dealer after researching some possible causes, thought maybe it was the evap cannister and charcoal cannister. Dealer kept the car for almost 7 hrs, claiming not being able to smell/replicate my complaint, then at the last minute decided to change the O rings on the main fuel pump, $424 cost. They told that was the cause and I should not smell gas anymore.

SPOILER ALERT--the smell never left. Took it back about a month later, spent 7 more hours at the dealership for them to come out and say they can't find anything. This was a Saturday (May 5, 2024) and they said I could bring it back Monday for more analysis. In the meantime, I returned to a You-Tube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DQnDzLLvW0&t=81s I saw about a fuel leak in the auxiliary fuel pump that was under the right rear passenger seat(!) and I took the back seat off myself to have a look. Surprise, surprise, there was (is) a pool of gas sitting atop a yellowed plastic part, inches away from electrical cables leading to the battery. This insane design is extremely dangerous, especially for rear seat occupants. The cost to repair it? $859. That's after they failed to look at it during their "diagnostic." If they would've looked at the auxiliary a month ago, I could've had this resolved and not be riding around inhaling gas for over month. There probably should be a recall because this fuel pump is only shielded by a thin piece of plastic and is perilously close to the cables leading to the battery which is in the trunk. I'm reviewing my options for repairs.
