Engine Stalls/Cuts Out While Driving
2008 Ford Edge
This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Ford dealer.
CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.
Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.
Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

This has now happened several times, each repair shop tells me it might be the water pump, which is $170.00 but it will cost $1800.00 to open it up and see, if not the water pump (which is internal to the engine on this model) If not the water pump you have just wasted $1800.00. recommend replacing the new engine, used is $3900.00 new is $9,000.00. This is total inexcuseable to have something like a water pump go out and have to spend that kind of money to replace it. The engineer that designed this should be fired. If I put either a used or new engine in there is no guarantee this will not happen again. No need to wonder why car buyers are going to foreign manufacturers. Does any one know if a different engine with an external water pump can be put in this model ford?
