When we purchased our "ford certified" 2017 ford escape it came with a "lifetime engine warranty" issued from (protective asset protection). thankfully when my wife was driving our children to soccer practice the dash board lit up and told her the engine was overheating and she was able to safely pull over and shut the engine off. currently our escape is at our local ford dealership where it has been since 4/15/24 (todays date is 5/8/24) the diagnosis is that coolant is leaking into cylinder #2. ford recommends a long block replacement per their technical service bulletin (tsb-22-2229). our service advisor contacted (protective asset protection) who in return requested our oil maintenance records which we promptly supplied and various pictures with a borescope down cylinder #2.
On our next contact with our service advisor he told us that (protective asset protection) caps their payout on engine replacements at $6400 and we acknowledged that we would have to pay the difference. then the third time we heard from our service advisor we were told that (protective asset protection) would not cover the long block replacement at all. to this day I'm not really sure what happened there. I contacted (protective asset protection) and was told that the breakdown was not caused by a covered part therefore it was denied. i asked if the part that caused the failure was not covered than what part caused the failure? THE COOLANT LEAK IS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE COOLANT LEAK IS BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.
neither my dealership or the ford corporate reps that i have spoke to can understand how this is not covered. very FRUSTRATING!!! but then again in all my years i have never seen a business on BBB with a RED FLAG attached at the top of the page. i am certainly willing to update this report if (protective asset protection) would "honor" their lifetime engine warranty.
