- Honda Acknowledges The Oil Problem In TSB #11-033 - In July of 2011 Honda quietly acknowledged the problem in the form of a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB #11-033). The TSB says the probable cause of the problem is the VCM (variable cylinder management) and should be fixed by a simple software update at a certified Honda mechanic.

I noticed that for the last 3 oil changes that every time I drain the oil less that 2qt come out. I refill 4.5qt and after 4k miles the story repeats. Also I am checking the dip stick and confirmed that the car burns around 2qt for every 4k miles. I used the recommended 5w20 oil (Mobil1 synthetic). The car does not smoke or smell like burning oil and no leaks anywhere. However consistently the oil disappears is higher that unusual rate comparing to all other cars I had. I also replaced the spark plugs and still see the same high oil consumption. Have not found a fix yet and just be mindful to check regularly my oil levels and add oil if necessary. This is not a 2 stroke engine and oil should not be burnt at this rate. Not environmental friendly as well.
