CarComplaints.com Notes: We're not used to seeing any major problems with Hyundai, which makes the early signs of trouble with the 2013 Elantra very surprising, in a bad way.

Early trends show problems with the steering wandering / pulling to one side along with premature tire wear. Elantra owners have tried sensor adjustments, wheel alignments, even replacing axles, most with no luck. Hyundai has made vehicle buybacks through arbitration, but that rarely works out well financially for owners in the end.

Also there is a pattern of complaints about the 2013 Elantra brakes grinding at very low mileage. It seems there was a bad batch of OEM pads & rotors, but so far Hyundai is not doing a recall. Instead Hyundai issued a TSB & dealers have been replacing pads & rotors on a per-complaint basis.

The final straw is that for several years in a row, Elantra owners report significantly lower gas mileage than the EPA estimates, & there's a small trend of engine problems.

sunroof shattered while driving sunroof shattered while driving sunroof shattered while driving sunroof shattered while driving sunroof shattered while driving sunroof shattered while driving

Parked my car in a garage at my sister-in-law's House. Stayed there overnight and woke up to a shattered sunroof. No signs of break-in to the garage, if there was the house alarm would have gone off. If it was an act of vandalism.. why is the other car in the garage in perfect condition and why only the sunroof? Had to drive it from one city to my hometown hoping the top cover wouldn't rip off due to high winds on the freeway to the service center closest to my Apt. Only to find out that they have never seen this happen before.

They claim that their tech center has received no claims of other Hyundais of my make and model to have shattered even though I brought this website and others with similar cases to their attention. They simply gave me a quote while not telling me the possible cause of the damage. Not satisfied with their response. And currently contacting other service centers to see if they had similar cases as I feel like this situation is being ignored. They did not even offer a full investigation into the matter.

If I have a chance to trade this car in I will. If end up paying for the damage and replacement, drive , and the sunroof shatters again while driving injuring whomever is in my car I'm going to have a hell of a time and will waste no time trading this car in even if they issue a recall. I don't plan on ever buying another Hyundai if that is the case. Simple as that.

Update from Feb 9, 2017: I know I haven't updated the complaint until now. Serramonte Hyundai did repair and replace the sunroof free of charge. I was extremely thankful. Thankful enough that it made me happy enough to forget that I added this complaint.

Now, the reason for the late update today on 02/08/2017. My sunroof collapsed AGAIN today. I was driving back from work and the SAME EXACT SOUND occurred. I now have pictures right after it happened. I was lucky enough to be 1 min away from a freeway exact and be within 5 min of a Hyundai Dealership/Service. The damage was also exactly the same. the outer trim that holds the glass is where it shatter and the middle was waiting to collapse into the car. Since I have been driving with the phobia of the possibility that it could happen again, I left the sunroof cover closed, which kept the broken glass from falling on my while driving on the freeway. The service center was closed when I got there around 6:20pm (even though the store hours online said it was open until 8pm). After consulting with sales, who provided me with numbers of how much I would get if I traded in the car, I ended up having family pick me up from the dealership and leaving my car at the service center using their night drop off procedure. I plan to go there first thing in the morning (if i can find a ride) to speak with the service center about how this problem will be fixed. Until then, stay tuned...

sunroof shattered while driving sunroof shattered while driving

Sunroof imploded during a cross country trip between St. Louis and Ft Myers, FL. Nothing impacted the sunroof. I heard an unusual popping sound, then several more pops in rapid succession a few moments later, at which point the sunroof shattered and fell into the cabin of the car covering us in glass shards. Was halfway into trip and decided to finish the trip at which point the car could be repaired in Ft Myers.

Contacted dealership in Ft Myers, which is Obrien Hyundai on Colonial Blvd., Ft Myers to get sunroof replaced. Service adviser I spoke to said it would be 3 or 4 weeks before they could look at the vehicle, NOT repair it, just look at it. That is not exactly what I consider to be customer service. I intend to publicize this issue across the internet, especially my interaction with O'brein Hyundai.

Update from May 27, 2014: Decided to recontact O'Brien Hyundai to see if I would get a better customer service response than previously experienced. Glad I did, the second encounter was much better, what I had hoped to encounter the first time. Both Mike in service & Henry in parts were outstanding in assisting me with the sunroof issue. Was able to get the car in for repair Tuesday by 11, Mike advised parts were ordered and expedited from Atlanta. Car should be fixed and ready to go by Wednesday afternoon. That's the kind of customer service which will keep me coming back not only for service, but also for when I purchase my next vehicle. Thank you Joe O.

This just happened today so will contact Hyundai but not very hopeful they will help. Seems to be an issue with at least some Elantras with the information I have found on the net. Do not expect Hyundai to admit they have a problem. Just bought the car in August so we are a little more than pissed and have no choice but to fix it as winter here is not friendly.
