I bought my 99 Mazda 626 2.0L v4 in the year 2000. Now at 160000 miles it has developed the problem of lost compression, after the head gasket was replaced. Cost of creating new piston rings and to regain compression is running into $1100. The issue started in Sept 2016 and paid the mechanic $550 to fix the compression issue. This time it is costing me $1100.
Mazda 626 is a worst car I have seen. I had to dump this car. Never again I will buy a Mazda.
