I don't think that an ignition coil should go out on a car with under 50,000 miles. When I asked my dealer if this is a frequent problem, he said mine was the 3rd he had replaced that day. This seems to be a known, frequent problem that Mazda should either recall or warranty even past the 3 year/36,000 miles. It cost me a day of work and about $700 after they also recommended changing spark plugs.

In brief on 3: 1. Long Time Mazda Loyalist and all previous cars have been mazdas, so yes - I am a believer in Mazda. 2. Love CX-5, and have always taken to dealer for maintenance. No major problems til this week. 3. Just did my 60,000 check and had brakes replaced as suggested last Friday, and yesterday (less than a week after my 60,000 check and brake replacement with hefty bill) - My car dies, power gone, could barely get to the freeway exit. Was told this was ignition coil, but how could this happen less then a week after spending all this money on a 60,000 check, getting brakes replaced, and paying a premium for it. I like my dealer and his team there, but the hassle and waste of time away from work I just encountered less than a week since getting the recommended PREMIUM service is not MAZDA-like. If there is a recall to be made on this coils (and I see several complaints here with same issue), they should do it now, and keep in mind the massive brand reputational loss that VW has been going thru for some years since they had a turbo coil recall on their Audis and VW jetta turbos that they did not communicate & fix asap with their customers - because they claim they did not have enough of them to replace all of them. If my car gets stuck in some of the tough areas that I travel thru in NYC or worst - loose power again/accident, I will leave notice to my estate to legally pursue claims from each top executive and board members at Mazda USA that might have known about the need for any type of ignition recall on these cars, and did not do anything about it. We loyal repeat Mazda owners put our trust in Mazda, so please respect that trust.

OK, this is getting ridiculous. Just 3 months ago I broke down and had to had this 2 1/2 year old car towed 30+ miles to a dealership. I paid $267.28 to get an ignition coil replaced which should not have failed, but Mazda and the dealership refused to warranty. Now, I broke down again at 40 miles from home and had to have it towed again. Now I'm told I need to replace the other 3 ignition coils. This time, they won't charge for parts but are still charging me for diagnostic and labor. This will be the last time I take it to this dealership for service and it will be the last Mazda I buy. A shame, I've had 2 in the past that I had no issues with.

Car was 2 1/2 years old, just past the bumper to bumper warranty, and did not qualify for power train warranty. Had to have car towed 30+ miles and loss of use for 3 days. Defective parts like this should be warrantied regardless of mileage in a car this new. It is not a normal wear item.

After exiting the HWY I stopped at a traffic light and was making a turn. I depressed the

Accelerator but the car barely moved and engine reved to 4000 rpm I was moving @ 5 MPH

Almost caused an accident and limped out of danger and into a parking lot. Car still would not

Drive and warning lights loss of traction and tire pressure were brightly lit. Turned the car off

Did a quick check off the car and saw nothing. I started the car and the problem was gone. So scary though.
