Everyone had me convinced that I was imagining that my car would jerk forward at 2000rpm for a few minutes before the engine warmed up, well as it turns out I'm not the only one with that problem!!! I would turn on my car in the fall/spring/winter push on the gas and suddenly right at 2000rpm the car would jerk forward- like a hiccup and it would do that every time I hit 2000rpm for a few minutes until the engine warmed up- I thought something serious was happening!! In the dead summer the car is fine- well this explains everything!

ARGHHH This whole time I was so worried it was a cracked intake vacuum hose or a faulty transmission! Granted I've had it thoroughly inspected and they said it was fine, but I mean what in god's name could be causing that horrid jerk? It's like my car has the damn hiccups!

Phew... got that off my chest

Anyways, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed this "imagined/invisible" problem I'm not sure how to fix it, and I'd like to get it fixed- especially to avoid winter jerking (I don't think it's good for the transmission anyways). Someone mentioned a transmission re-flash...may try that - my dad has his own computer for this kind of stuff anyways

Thanks guys!

Just glad to know I am not crazy. I have noticed a problem with my car for years now and the dealer doesn't seem to be able to find or fix it.

MAZDA3 GT GFX 2.3L

  • Automatic transmission

Trans shifts hard from 1st to second when tranny is cold, after warm up shifts OK.

Had the tranny reflashed seemed OK for a few days but returned to the annoying hard shift. appears to be a common problem with all early Mazdas

Mazda issued a TSB on 12/5/05 regarding "shift shock 1-2". The director of the Mazda dealership service acknowledged the car does not shift correctly when the engine is cold. The regional manager for Mazda will not authorize work because the computer tests indicate no problem.
