Altima LS 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,134 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

We went to get the normal oil change. The dealership presented us this problem of the CVT needing to be fixed. Little explanation was given. The car is a 2019 with not even 41K in miles. I am contacting Nissan Corp to see if I have any options for them to pay for. This car was strictly cared for by Nissan.

Nissan doesn’t care..it appears!

Here is what they asked to do: Change air filter Change cabin air filter BG Brake fluid service( recommend maintenance BG CVT fluid exchange- recommend maintenance BG Fuel IND Service - recommend maintenance

I feel like it was a search routine

2019 Nissan Altima - multiple serious safety issues which Nissan is aware of but unable to fix. I bought my 2019 Altima in April 2019 from Poughkeepsie Nissan. Since a month after buying the car, the most serious issue, which I still have today, presented itself. The Auto Emergency Brakes (AEB) and backup braking system warning lights kept coming on, either blinking or steady. They went off a day later so I ignored the issue. Same things happened periodically, but I didn't think much of it.

On 11/8/19, received recall notice for rear camera system and software, had this taken care of same day at Nissan of Yorktown Heights. The view of the camera is now poor (can see my license plate) and the car still slams on the brakes for no reason when backing out of my driveway. Sensors do not beep when pulling out of my garage and that is a tight fit. Brought car to Nissan of Yorktown Heights on 11/20/19 because the AEB lights are coming on more frequently and on one occasion, the car slammed on the brakes on the wide open road at 45 MPH. Fortunately, no one was behind me at the time.

On 11/25 they returned the car to me but nothing was fixed. A mile from dealer, the warning lights were on again. Note: when they had my car, the gave me a loaner 2019 Rogue. Same issues. AEB lights came on, car slammed on brakes when backing out of my driveway. Again, on 12/15/19, the car slammed on the brakes while on the highway doing about 60 mph. Clear day, and fortunately, the car behind avoided this dangerous situation. Brought car to Nissan of Yorktown Heights on 12/17/19, and they kept the car until 12/23/19. They admitted they are aware there is an issue with the AEB and reverse collision system but Nissan hasn't issued any guidance on how to fix since no codes show up on their diagnostics.

The dealer claims they test drove the car and couldn't replicate the problem. Tough to replicate when they lied about driving it. I dropped the car off with 10274 miles on it and that's what it had when they returned it 6 days later, confirmed by their receipt and a pic I have. They opened a ticket with Nissan Tech for the rear camera issue but there was no solution. They also recommended bringing the car to another dealer to see if they have better luck. Later that day, AEB lights were on and flashing again.

Note: While the dealer had my car, they gave me a loaner 2019 Altima. The same issues occurred. Car slammed on brakes backing out of my driveway and the AEB system lights either flashed or stayed on steady. I have video of this as well. 12/24/19 brought car to Poughkeepsie Nissan. Miles in: 10368. Miles out: 10369. They said no codes in the diagnostics and they couldn't replicate the problem. Tough to replicate when you don't drive the car for a while.

I understand intermittent problems are often difficult to diagnose but this is clearly a systemic technology problem with Nissan as it happened on my Altima and on the loaners they gave me (both the Rogue & Altima). Nissan is well aware of these serious, life threatening safety issues as there are multiple complaints with the NHTSA for this exact issue and 2 class action lawsuits currently pending against Nissan for these issues. Nissan is aware of the problem but doesn't know why it is occurring and they claim all is fine because no codes show up in the diagnostic test. Obviously, no codes will show up when a system is totally flawed but the car thinks it's working correctly.

Altima SR 2.0L

  • CVT transmission
  • 19,000 miles

I was in an empty parking lot (thank god) and the car literally braked for no reason by itself. I love Altimas, and AEB is a great idea when it works. But this could have been bad, I'm going to tell the dealership and see if i can upload my dash cam footage.
