Car began using a lot of oil, and blowing a fair amount of smoke, especially on start up. Drove it out of necessity for a couple months like that, til I got another car and parked it to prevent possible further damages. Trustworthy mechanic figured it out before I even told him, since apparently the oil rings are a fairly common problem with Celica engines. Ripped the motor out, new rings, machined the entire engine, save for the valves and lifters, which apparently can't be machined, only replaced. LOT of labor, and a large cost.
Total I spent $4400 on it, as I replaced a couple other things while the mechanic had the block ripped apart. Most of that was just the ring work though, so thats why I made the cost to fix $3000. Would have been cheaper and easier to replace the engine, but there wasn't any that would work anywhere near where I live, so..
