Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

problem #2

Jul 292007

  • miles

Fuse blown and defective front door latch assembly led to door locks remaining engaged. Opened the driver door with the metal key. Doors were not able to be opened by using the inside handles. If this had happened in a crash, the occupants would have been trapped.

The contact owns a 2006 BMW 325I. The contact stated that the interior door handles were replaced due to the paint peeling. He stated that the driver side door handle needed to be replaced again due to the same failure. Also, the console was replaced because of the peeling paint. In March 2007 the steering wheel sensor failed and was replaced twice. In addition, the sun roof failed to activate and the vehicle failed to start because the steering wheel was locked. The mechanic stated that the steering wheel and sun roof were both caused by electrical failure. The vehicle speed and the weather conditions were not factors.
