bought the car from a dealer (supposedly certified pre-owned), thermostat stuck within a week and overheated. They fixed at no charge. Then 5 months later, the water pump with the plastic impeller froze up, another overheating problem, $600 and some other work done too, replaced belts, hoses. In another 5 months the cooling fan circuit acted up, and cost $150 to replace a stupid fuse. Then final straw in November 2002, radiator blew, the plastic connector at the top cracked, $750 for the radiator + misc. Unbelieveable the problems with this piece of junk. Also had problems with the Brake light Circuit and SRS warning light as well, posted here as well. Staw away from BMW, it stands for Big Money Waster or Broke My Wallet.

What kind of idiots at bmw thought of using a PLASTIC impeller? Designed to 'save weight' by sacrificing a few ounces instead of using a metal one like Toyota/Lexus have been using for years. Their train of thought is totally idiotic. Oh, 2 years after the model year of my car, an 'updated' metal impeller pump was introduced, too little too late as far as I am concerned.

BMW and their 'wonderful' engineering, why the heck does anyone use a PLASTIC impeller for a water pump? To save 2 pounds of weight? Just for a laugh I called the dealer, they wanted $720 for the job and would not even guarantee it would be done the same day, so I took it to another place 2 blocks from home for $500 and it was fixed within 5 hours. Stay away from dealers, they all want $ and that's it.
