I like to report the incident with the sudden collapsing of the ECU car electronic on 01/23/2022 during night, which had raised my serious concerns regarding the car safety in general. During driving the car in the nighttime of Sunday 01/23/2022, my wife was on her way to return from Pompano, FL to her home in Plantation, FL, using the Turnpike, she experienced that ECU engine speed control had repeatedly sudden changes in engine revolutions, all indication lights at the dashboard went on and then all went off. At this moment of time, it was impossible for her, to control car speed via the accelerator pedal, since the engine speed suddenly changes from low idle to high idle, the operation of power steering and car brake system were affected as well. This unsafe situation of the car control functionality caused an unsafe situation for driving and having control over the car. It wasn-€™t possible for her to control engine/car speed, either the affected power steering hydraulic system and car brake system doesn-€™t supply the sufficient pressure to their system. In this particular moment the car was undrivable and uncontrolled, which were leading to a very dangerous situation for the driver, and it could end up in a live threating situation and accident for the driver. The service technician of BMW Holman Auto in Fort Lauderdale traced back the reason, that the ECU lost the throttle signal, due to a failure of the car battery. These is raising another question, why it doesn-€™t happen when starting the car, this is the moment when the highest current get drawn out from the battery, another question is, why these never happened before, when the car battery lost its capacity, because I-€™d to change the battery already twice since I-€™ve this car. Another question is regarding the ECU control logic functionality and their set up, why the engine speed needs to be accelerated, why the ECU can-€™t use the last actual throttle set point.

Was driving and saw many random warning lights going off in the car then smoke filled the cabin. I stopped went to the rear of the vehicle opened the trunk and noticed an actual fire coming from the side wall compartment that hold the car jack. After a couple of minutes the entire inside of the car was engulfed in flames.

Driving the for 18 miles up a mountain road to a sky resort on snow covered road. Never exceeded 20 mph because of conditions. During the trip the brake system light came on and screen said use caution. Parked the car at the parking lot, turned it off. Turned it back on and it seemed ok, the error message was gone. Went to our room. 20 minutes later the sheriff calls and said my car is on fire. It was a total loss.

On October 18, 2017 at approximately 7:50pm, my 2014 BMW X5 spontaneously ignited in my garage - the fire from the explosion destroyed all contents in my garage, including a second car and the fire and smoke damage destroyed the house and most of the contents. The vehicle was turned off and parked in my garage; the garage was closed. I parked the car in my garage at 7:30pm and the explosion happened around 7:50pm. The car was in perfect condition, I had just purchased it on June 27, 2017, it was certified with 16,000 miles on it and I only put 5000 miles on it within that 3.5 month time period. There were no signal or warning indicators on, ever; it wasn't even due for an oil change. The car drove fine that day and nothing was amiss. The fire investigators are fairly certain the ABS control unit (a part manufactured by Bosch) was faulty and shorted, thus causing the fire. The investigator said this is the 150th case he's seen of this specific control unit starting a fire. I was in the shower during the explosion, my two autistic children, ages 7 and 10, were sleeping. (my husband was not home at the time). Thankfully I was able to escape with my children unharmed. The whole experience has been incredibly traumatic for my two children, both of whom have severe autism. We moved into a new home, but most of our belongings have been destroyed and we are literally starting from scratch. On the night of May 5th, 2017, while I was driving my 2014 BMW X5, at the mileage of 6800 miles. A burning smell came out first. 2 minutes after the smoke came out. I asked my kids get out of the car. Another 2 minutes later, the fire came out from the bottom of the engine. The fire was too big then we called seattle fire department to extinguish it. So far, geico said this car is totaled. But BMW North America did not pay too much care with this accident. Just saying the primarily responsibility is geico despite I keep to reminder her "my car is under warranty". as of today, I have heard nothing from BMW North America telling what to do for me. Geico rent a temp car for me.

While both in city driving as well as in the rules the car braked spontaneously with no one or nothing in sight. The road conditions were clear there was no one or nothing on the road that should have caused the pedestrian indicator to cause the car to apply the brakes. This happened on two different occasions and both occasions the roads were clear and on unobstructed. This occurred while I and my husband we're driving at speeds of approximately 30 to 35 mph. This is a potential hazard because sets spontaneous breaking can cause a rear end collision.

Car stalled while driving down the interstate. Car went into neutral and we were able to push button start. Exited the interstate and stayed on service to remain safe. Passenger restraint system notification appeared stating to remain in safety belts and contact service center. Car had bad smell and smoke came from rear hatch. Car in flames in less than one minute. We have police report, video, pictures, insurance reports etc. BMW needs to be accountable and others warned about these hazards,

While returning home from Chicago, around 3:30 pm on Sunday 07/26/14 - I was exiting I-88 on the route 31 exit ramp. Halfway up the ramp the trunk/hatch of the X5 opened on its own. The car was traveling approx. 28 - 30 mph when the hatch opened under its own control. Both of the drivers (my) hands were on the steering wheel turning the vehicle well away from the trunk controls located on the driver side door at the time. My dog was located in the back/trunk of the car when the hatch decided to open. Luckily he was sleeping at the time it opened as there is usually no holding him back when it comes to entering or exiting the car. Combine this with the fact that I think he was confused as to why the car was still moving at the time the hatch opened, that by the time I got the car pulled over and in park; the dog ([xxx]), was just on the verge of jumping out and I was able to catch him when he attempted to do so. I was fortunate that the car directly behind me on the ramp saw the dog and stopped so I was able to gather the dog and return him to the car safely. I then proceeded to close the trunk using the button located on the hatch. The hatch/door operated without incident for the remainder of the ride home. While I'm grateful that no one was hurt or injured as result of this incident, the scene was still kind of terrifying. You're driving and the trunk on your SUV magically comes under power and opens on it's own" while the car was moving? with my dog in the trunk? what if I was doing 55 mph on the highway and I was in the middle lane of the highway" I previously scheduled the car for service because the trunk wouldn't open, but then it started working again, so I never brought the car in for service. So I've gone from the trunk not wanting to open to opening on it's own while the car is in drive and in motion. I have leased brand new 2014 BMW X5 on 12/09/2013. Suddenly after 2 days, it has broken. Heated steering function stopped working. Service department of my selling dealer kept the vehicle overnight and found out something is broken and the broken part has to be replaced. They said it would be going to take at least end of January 2014(this is what they told verbally). Neither service department of the selling dealer nor the manufacturer, guarantee when it can fix and refused to provide document evidence on that. Right now 2014 BMW X5S are on the road without having the replacement parts to fix in case of issues. In my case it is heated steering wheel, but I'm not sure the electronics of this vehicle since it has broken so new and it is taking longer time to fix which nobody knows when. What I believe is manufacturers should not release their vehicles, unless they have full control on their production lines. Also I ask document evidence from manufacturer and selling dealers service department, by confirming that this vehicle is safe to drive. They are refusing to provide such document. I really doubt that 2014 BMW X5S are still good enough to hit the road. Btw, the vehicle is still on temporary tags. Since the vehicle was so new when it broke and the time it is going to fix it is a uncertain, I feel really unsafe on this vehicles appreciate if you could investigate this. Thank you.
