Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

The vehicle drifted to the left, noises seemed to have been coming from the steering, the power steering locked up, the rack and pinion had gone out and leaked, the A/C control was inoperative, the seat belt button latch had fallen and the button was missing, the wheel alignment was out of specifics, the driver door was hard to open, the panel had moved when the window was rolled down, the power window(s) were inoperative, the shifter goes in and out, the right front door exterior trim was hard to open, the passengers seat coushin was too soft and had collapsed, and the door's mirror was loose. The service dealer had found no problems with the steering. Scc

Engine check light started flashing on dashboard. Consumer parked vehicle, and dealership determined that 5th fuel injector was defective, and a spark plug was inoperative. On second occurrence, while traveling at approximately 50 mph, engine started misfiring, and engine check light came on. Then, engine suddenly died, causing consumer to lose power steering capabilities. Dealership examined vehicle, and found 4th fuel injector to be defective. Had to change oil because fuel leaked into T crank case.

Engine was damaged and had to be replaced when oil filter fell(?) off the engine and car was driven 2+ miles with no oil in engine. Car stalled and was restarted 3 times. At no time did the oil warning light indicate a problem! dealer said engine was damaged and must be replaced but would not be covered by warranty because engine had been operated without oil. It cost me about $4,000 for a new engine. On several occasions the car will not move when reverse or drive are selected until the selector is moved in and out of other positions. This has been an annoyance only.

Driver's side wiper arm becomes loose and eventually becomes inoperative. Dealer has adjusted this three time previously on warranty. In the latest incident I was passing an 18 wheeler during a driving rainstorm at night when the driver's side wiper suddenly locked up and stopped working. I am lucky to still be alive. Had I had an accident and been killed no one would have known or suspected the cause. On a previous occasion the driver's side wiper became enmeshed with the passenger side wiper and both wipers suddenly quit working. Had this happened and both wipers quit in this latest incident I very likely would have been killed. This happened in a 1998 Buick Century, but any GM car with a similar wiper design could potentially have this same problem. Any time a wiper arm is removed for any reason, care must be taken to ensure that it is properly tightened or it will begin to slip and eventually cause this same potentially fatal problem. GM needs to issue torque specs for wiper arms.
