My grandfather bought a 2000 Buick Century new and then passed it on to me in 2003
with 13,000 miles on the odometer. This car had problems with it from the get-go. The bottoms of all four doors began rusting almost as soon as my grandfather drove it off the lot. He had it back to the dealer three times to try to get this problem resolved. At 18K the pin-striping peeled off. At 44K the solenoid (which is a common problem on these cars) failed - a $1,200 repair. Then a cooling system intake gasket failed ($974). At 59K the spark plug wires began arcing and damaged some coils ($970). Now at 65K engine oil is leaking into the starter and the right battery cable. The cost to fix this would be $1,700. The power steering fluid gasket is also now leaking ($900+). Inheriting this vehicle was the only way I would have ever ended up driving a Buick Century, and after this experience I can say that I will never again buy anything from GM. If flushing money down a toilet or throwing handfuls of it to the wind doesn't thrill you enough then by all means buy a Buick Century.
