It was cold when we experienced our second power window failure and it took a couple of days to get the part in and get it fixed. Thank goodness for extended warranty! This one paid its cost off completely.

This was the second time the driver's window regulator had to be replaced. I've lost count, but I think it was the fifth regulator on this vehicle. I told them I wanted them to keep the old unit for me. It turns out that the problem is the cheapest part of the whole deal. They use a 1/16" steel cable with a "windlass" type device on the motor and the cable goes over a pulley with the free end tied to the bottom of the glass. The end of that cable had rusted off, letting the ball at the end come off. The dealers insist that the cable isn't available separately. I have a nephew who is a Chevy mechanic and he said that's the truth, but they now use an improved design.

Both rear windows failed. When I learned that it would cost $420.00 each, I just disconnected the lift wire and locked the windows in the up position.

4 window regulators replaced in the last three years, it is very annoying and expensive. I do not understand why GM has not recalled this problem because I have heard from many people that they have had the same problem. I also understand that the parts were made in China so it is no surprise that they break.

I have a 2000 LeSabre and I have already replaced 3 windows regulators over the years.
Update from May 26, 2009: Well Love this comfy car, but these windows are annoying. You never can predict when one will give up on you. This time driver side windows stopped working. They are up and will go down when cold. Yap=Florida? Hot day they stay up and can not be moved.
Is it the main switch which controls all the windows?Computer? I wish to get the answer. My mechanic is trying to find out and if he can`t than I have to take my horse to GM.

This is the third buick window regulator/motor that has gone bad in this Lesabre. There should be a recall or reimbursement to all that have had this problem due to their shotty design.

I'm quite happy with this car as I have a bad back and it's comfortable on long highway trips. Both front seats are cloth (hard to find anymore), heated for winter with 8-way movement. I can't understand why the windows are broken and only one on the passenger side goes up and down. Soon none will work. I've taken the car around and no one wants to repair the problem just sell me new motors for each window and so far I've held out. Can't decide to fix or sell. Any recalls on this problem? Help please.

Should I do this 4 times? I bought mine as a Buick certified used car with around 33,000 miles, as I recall. At the end of four years, each window (all four) had failed at a cost totaling about 1800-$2000. After a huge discussion with Buick asking for concession, they got me to have repairs with their shop by stating their willingness to consider my complaint and requiring that I pay before considering my problem, then finally telling me no. When I again protested about the problem, as well as their method of extracting the repair from me before they would decide on my complaint, they gave me a 1 yr. coupon to purchase another Buick within a year. I have otherwise enjoyed the car very much and know others who have had excellent experience with 2000, 2003, and 2004 LeSabres.

3 of 4 windows regulators failed on a 2000 Buick LeSabre (I purchased new) at 54,000, 66,000 & 76,000 miles. Rears failed first then front passenger window. Drivers still OK. Seems to fail more the less you use it. Purchased used 2002 Buick in 2006 now rear window has failed. Cost to repair is about $290 for part plus labor of about $130. Search of web shows many have had this problem.
Seems like GM/Buick should do something about this problem that has continued to exist. I would like to elevate this issue.

Third window now. 1st(rear) was fixed under warranty. Next one, rear again other side, I disassembled track assembly and found cheap plastic pulley broken. Installed wooden prop to permanently hold up window. This week a front window. Same #@$%^^& problem, cheap plastic pulley. What a racket dealer has going on fixing these at $600 a crack. Again I installed a wooden prop to permanently hold up window. Maybe someday when its cooler I will try a junkyard.

What a pain! At least its not the driver window yet! Why did they go with such cheap junk? Go aftermarket and tell your kids not to open the window anymore.

Passenger window went out... then one of the back windows went out... then the other back window went out...(only the driver's window left)... ALL WITHIN 1 MONTH. Called a mechanic friend: says only thing to do is replace the regulator. Found a windshield repair guy locally that would install for about $35... found an aftermarket regulator online for about $100... Take it to the dealer and you are looking at about $300-400/EA w/ parts & labor. Seems silly that they are so poorly engineered... who wants to inevitably spend $1400 at the dealer replacing all the regulators. NOT SURE GM HAS A PROBLEM? TAKE A LOOK AT THE 2000 BONNEVILLE COMPLAINTS (SAME PLATFORM AS THE LESABRE)! (this forum wanted me to complain 3 times... once for every occurrence... but i'm tired now... goodbye)

After owning my car for only 4 months the window regulator went out on my Lesabre. I called around and talked to several junkyards because the dealor only sells them WITH motor for 390 kinda pricy. EVERY junkyard said oh, a rear window after i only said window regulator for lesabre, it is so common they get a few calls a week on them. OBVIOUSLY it's a problem and it's kinda pricy... but easy to change out once you get the door apart.

Three of the motors were replaced under warranty. The fourth, I paid $413.22 and the last was fixed for $100. after I contacted GM. Something is wrong with the power window mechanism. I have never had a power window fail that I can remember. Having five failures on one automobile is unbelievable. Either they are defective, or they don't know how to repair them properly.
