The contact owns a 1995 Buick Regal. The contact stated that as the engine was started, the driver side air bag exploded haphazardly. The air bag deployment burned the contact's face and hands as he was trying to stop the air bag with his hands. The vehicle was not involved in a crash or any type of slight impact. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 190,000.

No parts available to correct recall 00V171000 concerning air bags. Consumer stated that at his last visit, on January 9, 2002 the service advisor said he would order the part and call consumer to set a date for the replacement. This should be within 30 days.

Air bag coil would make a squeaking noises when the wheels are turned. Sometimes later, it sounded like paper was brushing against it. Took vehicle to dealership & mechanic understood what was the problem. Was not covered under warranty. Also was not informed if air bag was defective.
