Most likely that transmission failure was caused by prior lack of maintenance and possibly improper prior repair (used vehicle purchase). Vehicle may have been operated with low transmission oil level; several bolts missing on transmission oil pan, seal leaks may have been a factor. Be sure to have transmission serviced professionally every 30,000 mi with transmission oil change and new pan gaskets, for better service without problems.
