CTS CTS4 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 67,000 miles

Bought a used luxury sport sedan as a treat for driving older used cars for most of my professional life. Unfortunately, after putting around 25000 miles on it the car made a clunk on an on ramp and stopped moving. Towed to a GM dealer and was told it was the transfer case chain and would need replacing. Dealer had the car for about a week and told me they hadn't seen or heard about this issue previously (Balise dealership in MA). Luckily the extended warranty I purchased for a few thousand dollars covered the bill and I was off on my way...for a while (see 2nd occurrence).

CTS CTS4 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 116,000 miles

Driving the CTS to work today and was pulling away from a stop sign when a familiar yet painful clunk was heard from my drivetrain. The car for the second time in its relatively short life stopped moving despite being in drive with the engine running. Towed to same dealer that did the first transfer case repair at 67,000 miles (Balise dealer in MA). This time, no extended warranty coverage and no coverage from the dealer's repair the first time (repairs are typically 12 months and or 12,000 miles) I am told. Based on the prior repair of $3100 being covered by my extended warranty, this one will be extremely more aggravating. Made some calls to Cadillac customer care and have heard nothing and the dealer is sticking by the 12/12 they typically offer. Am I the only one who thinks a Cadillac drive train part should last more than 67,000 miles the first time and more than 50,000 the second time?????
