Right after I purchased this 2006 Cadillac SRX, the engine light came on. I read the manual and let the car go to empty on gas and added the highest octane. The light went out temporarily. Then the engine light started flashing. I took it to the Cadillac place where I purchased this vehicle. They said the car was running on 5 cyl. instead of 6 and made repairs. The Cadillac place was kind enough to pick up the cost (I believe it was due to fact the car only had approx. 2000 miles put on it since I bought it and I had asked the service person why there would be a problem since that place would normally have the used car in tip-top shape at time of purchase but that this had been almost immediate upon getting this car, when the engine light first came on. I was thankful to them for covering the cost of the service they did that day. Within a day or two the steady engine light came back on. Basically, the engine light has been on, either steady or flashing since I brought the vehicle home. I am sick of this problem and worry that more damage may be going on while the light is on in a steady fashion. I am 68 yrs. old, living on Social Security (less amt. than the average Soc. Sec. benefit) and am raising 3 grandsons, on my own. Please, can anyone give me some good advise. I do not have the money to trade this monster in on a different vehicle and struggle each month to stretch my Social Security income out to make it through the month, even without problems that may come up. Thank you.

SRX SUV 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,500 miles

My 2006 Cadillac SRX with 98,500 miles the check engine light came on. Took it to my garage codes came up P0008 P0009, P0016 P1700 all related to the timing chain. Cadillac dealer gave me a quote of $4050.00 to fix, asked the to reset the DTC which they did it lasted for 50 miles. Could not get a Safety or Eissions sticker in Massachusetts because check engine light is on.. Drove vehicle for 20,000 mores on rejected sticker. Local garage wants $2000.00 for repairs (former Cadillac tech). Contacted GM corporate offices have been getting the circle routine from rep. About to junk a 42K cost vehicle because of a bad design by Cadillac.. Local dealer will give me $1,200 toward a newer SUV. They should warranty the problem, not just send out service bulletins that don't work.

SRX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,000 miles

ANOTHER Cadillac SRX with P0008 engine code (timing chain problem). This is a known issue for Cadillac and they have granted a "special warranty" to many (?most) owners. The mechanic at my Cadillac service center was surprised that my VIN did not qualify. I called Cadillac Owner's Line and was told, in essence, there have not been enough complaints registered!! He could not give me a satisfactory answer as to why some VIN numbers qualified and others did not. I was told to "save my receipts"; in the event of a future recall I will be reimbursed. Problem is I am trading in the vehicle; this issue is decreasing my trade in value by about $2000.

SRX 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 93,000 miles

Check engine light came on at 93,000 miles, took it to Herb Chamber's Cadillac in Lynnfield Ma. Service writer gave me written quote of $4050.00 to repair. Cannot get a mandatory state inspection sticker because the engine light is always on. Took it to a private repair garage quoted $2,500 to repair all items related to timing chain components. Called Cadillac customer service 5 different times kept getting run around. I know of at least 20 other cases of the same complaint. I have owned 8 Cadillacs since 1985 without any major problems, have owned cars since 1964 and never had a timing chain problem on any of my GM, Fords or Chrysler cars. This issue needs to have Cadillac step up and fix the problem.
