Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

Print this page Notes: The 2000 Chevy Astro Van has a solid reputation with very low complaint rates. The only problem now is finding one with low miles.

Not only is the 2000 Astro Van reliable, but since they were built on a truck powertrain, they can tow 5,500/5,000 lbs (RWD/AWD) -- almost double what other minivans can.

The Chevy Astro is mechanically identical to the GMC Safari.

Astro Van LX 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 132,000 miles

I have had the service engine soon light come on, I also have noticed rattles in the muffler, my catalytic converter is shot, the guts of the converter have blown into the muffler. One of my questions is: when a catalytic converter is changed does it have to be an exact match or could a ceramic converter be installed, do I need to be concerned about back pressure?
