Avalanche LT 5.3L V8

The engine light came on and a "service stabilitrak" message appeared. After having the car scanned it turned out it had a bad throttle body TPS sensor. During the time it took to have this diagnosed the engine started making an increasingly annoying ticking sound. Oddly enough, after replacing the throttle body and changing the oil the ticking noise went away, only to return after about 1,000 miles. At this point the car went back to the dealership and they recommended replacing ALL lifters from the 5.3 Active Fuel Management Vortec Engine.

The repair was done out of warranty and set me back about $1,500 in parts and labor. Seemed like the engine should have not given any problems so soon, specially since I maintained it regularly. Other that this, and the dashboard developing cracks all over it, the truck has performed ok.My old Toyota Land Cruiser (1995) was infinitely more reliable, but admittedly very spartan and basic in terms of ride quality and features. I guess you can`t have it all (a bunch of complicated electronic components and special systems may make the car more powerful/efficient//comfortable but the tradeoff is that you have more things that can fail at some point and leave you stranded)
