Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

Aveo LS 1.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

The Aveo was so great until recently. I was in a car accident and it survived; but one day just minding my own business driving to a going away party, my car suddenly died. I drive long distance to work (approx 45 miles each way) and my car has never given me any trouble or showed signs of damage. My car felt like it was hit by a major gust of wind and everything just stopped. I had the starter replaced thinking that was it, but nope. Then the timing belt, nope still didn't work, finally after mass research on the internet I found out that the timing belt can cause the valve stems to bend (NOT GOOD AT ALL). All 16 of the stems were bent and it is going to cost AT LEAST $1000.00 to fix. Normally this damage has happened on vehicles with less mileage, but because I drive lond distance the wear and tare was more gradual and my warranty just ran out ( I bought the extended warranty too) Chevy wont fix it and now I'm stuck borrowing cars until I can save the money to get it fixed (THIS SUCKS).

OK. This is the SECOND time I had an engine give out on me on this car. Apparently the anti-freeze valve or something of that nature is quite defective. A COSTLY inconvenience if you could imagine. I am very reluctant to have the engine replace a second time considering it was replaced a few months ago!! SAME problem. If anyone has similar troubles feel free to rant over poor planned obsolence. I am a disappointed customer and may not be the only one..
