When my 2000 Blazer reached 55000 miles, I heard a weird sound coming from the front end. I jacked up the car and gave a wheel a spin, and it sounded like bearings. I took it into the local dealer to have them take a look. They told me that my front wheel hubs were bad. Now on a 2000 Blazer these are sealed units, so you can't lubricate them in any way for maintenance. So, when they go bad, you have to replace them. The dealer gave me a quote to replace both front end wheel hub assemblies. Price alone for the hubs was almost $900, and they wanted another $500 to put them on. Then he hit me with more bad news. Since they had been going bad for a little bit, they caused other parts to wear prematurely. I was told that just replacing the wheel hubs would do no good. I would need to replace upper and lower ball joints, idler arm, and new tires since they were worn on the inside bad because of the hub failure, and then finally, a wheel alignment. They quoted me over $2500 for everything. At the time, I couldn't afford it, so I drove it home and had to look elsewhere for the answers. I found some new wheel hub assemblies on Ebay from a Cadillac dealership in Chicago for $$189 a piece. The same exact ones the Chevy dealer was selling for $450. I bought them, bought new upper and lower ball joints, new idler arm, and decided to try it myself. Replacing the wheel hub assemblies was fairly simple. I did each side in less than an hour. And to think they wanted to gouge me $250 per side to put them on at Chevy. I rented a ball joint press from my local autoparts store for a day
