My 2001 Chevy Blazer changes from 2wh to 4 wheel drive automatically while the vehicle is moving. This isn't the first time this has happened. I was able to get my car off of the road safely and change it back into 2wh, but it kept switching back into 4 wheel drive. There is evidently a defect.

Since I bought my 2001 Chevy Blazer, I've had to replace ball joints everytime I have a front end alignment. This year I've replaced 3 wheel bearings, fuel pump, and I just lost my transmission. I've had the light recall fixed. My service engine light stays on, but you cannot put a computer to it because it doesn't work. My ABS light comes and goes. Whats next?

My wife and I bought our '01 Chevy Blazer used in 04/05. From the start we had a hard time getting it to engage/disengage 4WD. This last winter my wife, the primary driver, complained that the vehicle had no power while coming home one night and the weeknights following for a week. I checked in the mornings it was fine. Pretty soon we both started noticing the gas gauge bouncing around like it was dancing. My wife thinking she was running out of gas would pull into the first gas station. She would fill up and leave the station only to have it happen again after pulling away from the pump. One month later, her and our 3 small children got stranded when they went in to convenience store. A minute later the Blazer had died and the key in the on position. Replaced the fuel filter and then the fuel pump ($350 just for the pump!!!) the heating element in the pump had fried it. 04/06 the ABS failed and she almost hit a pedestrian. 2 weeks later we start hearing this popping noise when slowing/stopping and accelerating. 05/06 the battery died on her with no warning. Tried jumping it and it wouldn't hold a charge. Got that replaced. Then in 08/06 we didn't drive it because the plates had expired and we couldn't afford to replace them yet. Finally I drove it on 08/13/06 for 1 mle to the store and on my way back while stopping at the stop sign 2 blks from my house, I heard this loud clunk noise and then the vehicle started whinning. Now the thing won't move. It starts and whines, but won't move. Transmission is shot and is going to cost $1600 to replace with me doing the work. And so now, like 90% of the country, I am making a very high car payment except mine is on a car that I can not drive. This and other web sites about vehicle recalls prove that there are some serious issues with these vehicles and nothing is being done about it. What needs to happen is for some one to die B/C of these defects and then U will be scrambling to correct the problems. This is ridiculous.

My friends borrowed my vehicle, a 2001 Chevy Blazer, and went camping in the mountains. The vehicle was parked at a location that could have been very dangerous due to this failure, it was near a creek bank with a drop of approximately 30 feet. When the vehicle was started and put into reverse all it would do is coast forward which could have been very dangerous if they did not react in time as it could have went over a cliff. Fortunately they were in an area where there was a pay phone. They were staying at a state park and there are many areas that are very remote and are several miles away from phones or people. I was advised by aamco transmission that they see this transmission problem on a regular basis and it is caused because the reaction sun shell was made of an inferior metal and even in repair technical bulletins it specifies to repair problem by replacing with a "more robust heat treated reaction sun shell". when this occurs, it also affects second and fourth gears. In order to repair this problem the transmission needed completely rebuilt at a price of $2,326.38 plus a towing bill.

Consumer heard a noise in the front of vehicle. Consumer stated he had been hearing it a little, but currently the noise became more pronounced. Consumer had already replaced the transmission once. The consumer had to fill the tires every week. The tires leaked air since purchase. The tire service dealer suggested that there was no leak and that corrosion built up on the wheels in which air escaped through the rim of tires. There was a thumping noise in the front end and seems like it happens worst on right turns, the left wheel bearing was loose in the hub bearing assembly, the hood hinges rattling excessive clearence, there was excessive slippage and the clutch burnt. (Laredo tires)

This was not the first time I had a problem with the transmission in this car. Earlier in the year I put it in the shop because it seemed to be falling out of overdrive. It was repaired and I had two months of incident-free driving. We went on a weekend trip. After I stopped and restarted the car, I noticed my clock reset itself. Two hours into the trip, the car started jerking in and out of gear. We drove two hours back to the dealership where they found a computer wire was disconnected. Two hours later, the car starts slipping in and out of overdrive again. It would run in 3rd gear, we were close enough to our destination, we continued on in 3rd gear. When I got back home, I dropped the car off at the dealership and told them to fix it. I was without my vehicle the majority of the following 6 week period. I was driving on the interstate in the rain, there was a fatal accident, I slowed down & turned on my flashers, I had no tail lights, flashers, etc. I had already had the multi-function switch replaced shortly after I bought the car because someone almost rear-ended me. The engineer from Chevrolet came down and could find no cause for my transmission problem and offered $1500 trade allowance, which leaves me stuck with another Chevrolet and a higher car payment. In addition to the transmission problem, one of my tires was worn out after 30,000 miles, the 2nd one 15,000 miles and an alignment later. After only 45,000 miles the wheel bearing on the front drivers side was shot, the same side the tires were going bald on.

Blazer 4WD 6-cyl

Transmission dropped out @44000 miles. 12/02 had to replace both front ball joints. Summer of '03 started making loud popping noises which came from front right area, it would pull unexpectedly to either side - mainly to the right and service 4WD light would come on. 10/03 had to have right front wheel bearing replaced. Could find nothing wrong with 4WD-don't know why light keeps coming on. Now 01/04, right front wheel bearing needs replaced again. I'm told part under warranty as long as I own vehicle cause GM has received so many complaints. What is GM doing to correct the root cause of this" I see I am not the only one with this problem. Thank god I have not had any accidents, but have had a few near misses because the it would "jerk instantly" and it caught me off guard. Does an accident / injury / fatality have to happen before corrective action is taken"

I purchased my vehicle in 4/01 and seven months later I began experiencing a host of problems with my vehicle, starting with multifunction switch worn, then hood hinges worn, exhaust (muffler broken) right speaker inoperable, left front seat adjuster broken, grill assembly loose, brake pedal broken and finally transmission failure (needs replacing). I have done a bit of inquiring to other Chevy Blazer owners and found out that they have or had experience some if not all of the same problems that I am experiencing now. I am hereby respectfully requesting your assistance in rectifying this complaint. I don't think that after 11mths of purchasing my vehicle I should be needing my transmission replace. From passed experienced with replacing a transmission on my wife new vehicle (Mazda MX3) back in 1992 it has never been the same. We had been having the same problems and more with it. We were able to actually get another vehicle and the same problem keep occuring. After that long and tiring experience with my wife's car I now that this won't be no different. I have purchased a lemon and I need to know what recourse I can take to insure that I would not be stuck with a vehicle that would be costing me more to have it constantly fixed and replace. I thank you for your help and assistance in this long and tiring ordeal. I anxiously await hearing from you. Respectfully yours.
