My brake lights went out. The third brake light. As I owed a 2001 GMC jimmy that had the same problem that was covered under a recall I knew that the multifunction switch in the steering column was the problem. I went to my local chev dealership (koehne chev) in marinette wi. They said there was no recall one my vehicle. I asked about the three tsb and they said they don't have to do anything with a tsb. I know this is a ongoing and a safety issue (no brake lights). The part number on the switch that I took out is 26096832. There has to be hundreds of thousands of GM vehicles with these switches in them with the potential fatal accidents waiting to happen!!!

In March of 2010, my drivers side brake light went out but the bulb still lit up. It is a dual filament bulb, one for tail lights and the other for brake/turn signal. My mechanic investigated and the issue was a faulty switch for the brake light. This is a part that can only be purchased from the dealer. No aftermarket switches/circuit boards are available. The whole circuit board must be replaced. Again on 9/1/12, I was notified that both my brake lights are out. I called General Motors and went to my local dealership only to be told my vehicle is not under a recall. I researched and found recall: 01073 issued by General Motors for the exact issue my vehicle is having which was expanded to include more vehicles but still not mine. GM is profiting from selling these dealer only parts when they fail aside from saving money by not issuing the recall to all affected vehicles.

This needs a recall for GM asap. Please investigate!

I have a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer. The hazard lights and the brake lights on the body quit working. The brake light over the hatch still worked. The turn signals also were not affected. I checked fuses and light bulbs but both were fine. When I turned on the hazard lights there was a clicking sound coming out of my speaker, like there was a short in the wiring. I'm glad it didn't start a fire. I then did an online search for possible solutions to the problem and came across some recalls on my model describing the same problem. When I called Chevrolet they said that mine was not on any of the recall lists. I had to take it to the local Chevy dealer and they had to replace the multifunction switch which is what the recalls were for. I'm not sure why mine was not included either the original recall or the subsequent ones. I do feel that if there were any issues with this model they should have at least sent a warning letter. If someone hadn't told me that the brake lights were out I would have never known.

August 24, 2008, myself and my three daughters headed to church traveling along 91N in ct to exit 35 when another passenger car waived at us to get off the exit - not knowing why we got off the exit any way since that's the one we needed and as we slowed down an abundance of smoke came from the front of the car - I pulled over and the gentlemen continued to waive at us - not known to me why until we got out of the car and saw flames brewing under the car...immediately I sought after my children to get to a safe distance and called 911 - state trooper was at exit 33 so he arrived quickly however front of car already had flames coming up towards windshield - front of car was covered with flames before fire truck arrived (pictures available) - insurance company had inspection completed and according to the inspection (report available) reference was made to the point of origin being the electrical system...outside of emotional distress (seeking therapy) no physical injuries occurred. This fire left me without a vehicle and as a real estate agent my vehicle is everything...this vehicle also was our family car.

- the contact stated that on 10/03 vehicle would lost power while driving. The ABS light, low oil light, low batteries, and check engine warning light appeared on the dash board. The contact took the vehicle to heritage Chevrolet in battle creek, mi, and they stated that they repaired the vehicle by replacing the ground unit. On 01/04 contact experienced the same incident, except that the vehicle did not completely lose power. The engine kept running, but the vehicle would lose power to the speedometer, as well as having the ABS light, low oil light, low batteries and check engine warning light appear. On 02/04, contact brought vehicle back to the same dealership, who stated that they wouldn't be able to repair the vehicle, and for the contact not to return with the vehicle. This year the contact experienced the same incident and took the vehicle to a different dealership, ) and they stated that the reason the vehicle was having the problem was because the ground wire was failing, creating a surge of power to the electrical system, and cr a failure in the ABS control module. The ABS control module and the wire harness will need to be replaced.
