I own a used 1995 police pkg. Caprice with the 5.7L LT1 motor. Shortly after purchasing the car I noticed that the engine made a ticking sound until it warmed up. I found out that the passenger side exhaust manifold bolt near the firewall had broken off. After speaking with my mechanic, this is a very common problem with these cars because GM used grade 5 bolts for the manifolds. My mechanic was able to extract the broken bolt from the head and replaced all my manifold bolts with grade 8 bolts that will not break from contraction and expansion.
