CarComplaints.com Notes: The Cobalt was introduced to replace two of Chevy’s smaller cars, the Cavalier and Prizm. But the compact’s fresh start that Chevy was hoping for was riddled with issues, most notably widespread power steering failure.

The power steering failed so often that GM was forced to issue a recall in March, 2010. Great, but what about other problems like the key getting stuck in the ignition or all the other electrical demons this car possesses?

And, oh yes — then there’s the terribly dangerous issue where the Cobalt randomly shuts off while driving. As it turns out, that problem is related to GM’s massive 2014 recall for a dangerous ignition switch defect. A recall that eventually ballooned to 2.6 million vehicles in one of the automotive industry’s biggest scandals.

Shortly after i got this car a friend noticed that there was water leekin down on to the floor from under the dashboard. if it was a little water i wouldn't bother.

Recently though i went on a long trip and by the time I got there, the floor on the passenger side was SOAKED! Needless to say i was very irate about this. the water drips in anytime the A/C is ran for a while, and now my floor is all wet and probably moldy under the carpet>:( It causes the car to smell horrible if its been sitting on a warm day. If ur thinkin bout gettin this kind of car, do ur homework on it first!

One day we were driving to Chicago IL and my mom was telling me her foot was getting wet and i thought she might have been crazy so we pulled over to a gas station and i got out checked and she was right her foot was getting wet. I had my A/C on (the button that has the picture of the care not the snow flake) and checked under my car bc normally it leaks underneath i looked for 10 minutes and nothing and my mom was in the car and noticed it dripping so we turned around went back to Hoopeston to Read's GM Dealer ship and told them about it and immediately they got my car in and fixed the problem (supposedly) 2 weeks later turn on the A/C again and nope still not fixed took it back they ordered a part took about a week to get they put it on and again still not fixed this time i checked immediately hour later took it back they checked it again and i haven't had the problem since and it was covered under the warranty however took them 3 times to figure it out..... GM/Chevy just needs to recall the whole dang car its a POS!!! and warranty is out just like that i have had several other numerous problems with my Cobalt and will post more issues under more of the category

Cobalt Coupe 2.2L V4

From the get-go my 2005 Cobalt had alot of issues, hence why I opted to get rid of it after 4 short years & only 35,000 miles, even though it was almost paid off. I would place grocery bags, etc on the passenger side floor. I noticed that they were always getting wet somehow. Turns out that everytime I had the A/C on, water was dripping onto the passenger-side floor. Definitely not supposed to do that!

We bought this car in January of 2007 and we noticed about a year later the floor board on the passenger side was starting to become wet. We realized that when we ran the AC the water would drip on the floor board. One day while in Macon I kept smelling a God awful smell. We were getting gas so I checked to make sure something had not soured in the car and that is when I realized the floor board was flooding so we made it home and I told my husband that the floor board was flooded and he went out to check it and he found mold and mildew. We had to cut the carpet out to get rid of the smell and the mold.

Don't buy a 2005 Chevy Cobalt. The mechanics told us "it's a little throw away car" (bad). After recall fix, when the AC / heater is on water appears under the dashboard. The rental car places are buying them up cheap and the Dealers are selling them off really cheaply just to get rid of them.
