CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Cobalt continued to carry the torch first lit by the 2005 model year. To be clear, that torch is burning bright with widespread power steering issues, electrical curiosities and a dangerous ignition switch defect which led to a massive recall by GM. This isn’t a great torch to carry.

The 2006 added it’s own special flare with gas leaks due to cracks in the “return portion of the modular reservoir assembly.” A recall of 2006 Cobalts was issued to fix the problem, but only to vehicles sold in or current registered in Arizona and Nevada, leaving other owners to pay for repairs themselves.

Between this car stalling while driving, giving owners fits with power steering failure and having it be a potential tinderbox because of gas leaks, we felt we had no other option than to award it our “Avoid Like the Plague” badge.

Can't believe a car that's only 7 years old has paint chipping from it. It looks horrific and needs to have a recall so it can be fixed. I'm sure many more are having same problem and hope Chevrolet will uphold their reputation by addressing this problem promptly.

Clear coat just started peeling in three different places. Roof, hood, and trunk areas are the first and probably not last to peel. Looks terrible! Talked to other people with same problem with clear coat. Hope there is a recall on peeling soon before it consumes my entire car!! Linda W.-Kentucky

I have come across numerous people on here who are having the same problem with the Chevrolet Cobalt as I am. The clearcoat is peeling on my back driver side quarter panel, as well as between the sunroof and windshield! It looks awful, and, in my opinion, shouldn't be happening on this new of a vehicle. It doesn't seem that GM is willing to take care of its owners. I have taken very good care of this car, but it seems to be falling apart right in front of me! Maybe this is why GM needed a bailout, because they build crap that doesn't last, and when something does happen, they do nothing to make it right!!!!

GM white paint is crap. I had a 2006 Colbalt with less than 40,000 miles on it and the white paint was rusting on the doors. My solution was to sell the p.o.s.
