CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 Cobalt inherited most of the problems from the 2005 and 2006 model years, but toned them down (a bit). Sure, the power steering still fails and the car has a chance of going up in flames due to a cracked fuel tank, but it’s not as prevalent as the older models. At least not yet.

In 2012, the Cobalt was recalled for gas tank fires but only for owners in certain states.

Then in 2014, the 2007 Cobalt was part of a massive GM recall due to a defective ignition switch that could cause the airbags to not deploy during an accident. The problem led to 13 deaths, government investigations and multiple class-action lawsuits.

The doors latches and the doors openers will not function properly. For example: The driver door latch will not catch, therefore you have to take and manually push the latch back until it clicks and you also have to take an pull the door handle from the inside of the car at the same time as pushing the latch back to close the door. All four doors on the car are like that. Second, the driver door handle has already been replaced once due to failure to operate opening the door as if it is stuck or something. The color of the car is red and the first time the driver door handle was replaced, it was replaced with a plastic silver handle. The handle has since than broke again and has not been replaced due to failure to operate correctly the first time it was replaced. This car and disfunctional parts has become a nuisance.

Terrible clunking sound in the front end of my 2007 Cobalt. Dealer says its control arm bushings and sway bar links. Personal mechanic confirmed the sway bar links needed to be replaced, but also saw that the arm bushings were in perfect condition and perfectly tight. Replaced links, but noise persists. When trying to find out what to do next I went to the internet where I discovered this seems to be a widespread problem. Help please and investigate so GM can recall the faulty materials.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated after locking the doors with the remote keyless entry, the doors would unlock independently hours later. The contact stated that he had changed the batteries in the remote but did not remedy the issue. The contact also purchased another keyless entry remote and the failure recurred. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the failure and the manufacturer could not provide any assistance to the contact. The contact was concerned with vandalism or theft. The failure mileage was 105,000. The VIN was not available.

Chrome plated door handle on 2007 Chevy Cobalt. The chrome has come off and sliced opened my hand. You are taking to long to force GM to recall vehicles with bad handles. You are already investigating the 2007 Tahoe for the same problem. Now that we are all part owner of GM and taxpayers keep NHTSA running, stop taking so long with the "red tape" and do the right thing.

My 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt lt sedan has door lock issues. The car will not unlock using the remote until the 15th time of hitting the bottom. Some times more, some times less. Both of my remote batteries have been replaced and circuits soldered. Nothing is helping. The problem could be the computer or the door lock actuator or something entirely different.

Within a month of purchasing a new 2007 Chevy Cobalt - I began hearing rattling noises from my vehicle. I have had the car in for repairs numerous times. Multiple components have been replaced and or repaired. I currently have 15,000 miles on the vehicle - to this day I can still hear rattling noises and clunking noise coming from the steering-suspension. The mechanics have now told me they don't know what's wrong and suggested I try a different dealership. I have contacted Chevy and received no help in settling this issue. If Chevy would of had their return policy when I purchased - I would of gladly returned the vehicle - I make car payments on a lemon. I don't even like my daughter to ride in the vehicle for fear of her safety. I fear I will be driving down the road the front end will fall apart. It scares me to death.

Power steering indicator light came on while I was out and about running errands (at least 3 times). Fortunately, I was able to pull over, stop and start again. It would run fine for a short while and the light would come on again. I also experienced a great deal of trouble 7/17/09 with the key getting stuck in the ignition and it not turning. I have recently spent $1,600 plus to repair/replace the cylinder head gasket.
