This vehicle started having problems with the air bag light staying on, I took the truck into local Chevy dealer on October 16, 2015 and it was determined that the code for the airbag and seat belt retractor were the problem and the cost was $1288. I received a letter from Chevrolet dated October 2015 which outlined the identical problem and I have called them and the case#8-1632849396 they refuse to cover this problem because the miles on the truck is 135,000 miles and they stated that the coverage is only up to 120,000. This problem is a safety issue and should be a recall and not limited to miles as they are attempting to do with the letter. I have not had truck repaired.

I was in my vehicle was sitting at a complete stop, ignition on, engine running, transmission in park. I then heard an audible scratching plastic noise coming from the left lower rear extended cab door. I looked back to see what it was (saw nothing) and noticed when I turned back around my seat belt would not retract. I was then able to un-ravel all of the seat belt webbing feeling no retractor tension until it was fully extended. The seat belt will not retract back into the door / retractor to this day. I am the original owner of the vehicle (purchased new in late 2007) it has never been in an accident (major or minor), it is well cared for and not abused. I am forced to purchase a new seat belt / retractor for the vehicle. Safety restraints should last longer than 4~5 years especially not being shock loaded (in an accident). What if I was braking hard or coming into a collision, I would not be here to write this. I am an automotive engineer with over 10 years in the industry; most of which has been testing (some FMVSS). It is of my opinion that this retractor / seatbelt has a serious manufacturing defect or design flaw and should be investigated.
