Steering column is locked, the wheel will not turn and the motor dies if the vehicle moves. Previous recall for other Corvettes same model year and from the same plant but recalls stop prior to the VIN number of this vehicle. Occurred after restarting the parked vehicle. Vehicle was parked in a lot at a shopping center.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact started the engine and the message "pull key and wait ten seconds" appeared on the instrument panel. The contact followed the instructions and restarted the vehicle. The instrument panel displayed the message "service column lock". the contact shifted into reverse and applied the accelerator pedal as the engine stalled. The contact was able to restart the engine, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
