This complaint was filed under the wrong VIN no. The complaint is being submitted again with the typo corrected with the correct VIN [xxx]. the incorrect VIN no. Was submitted with my complaint # 10944956. The details were submitted with complaint #10944956 and all other info submitted for that complaint earlier today 20170111 are correct. This submission is not a new, second complaint but is instead a correction to the VIN no. Given for my previous complaint to be submitted as a correction. The number of occurrences of the problem with the automatic transmission getting stuck in park has occurred with increasing frequency since 2014, the most recent occurrence was on 9/05/16 at the dealership where I bought the car. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Corvette

  • 13,000 miles
Automatic 6-speed transmission with auxiliary paddle shifters on steering wheel. When the car is stopped and in park, the console stick shifter gets stuck at random times after car has been stopped/parked and I can't put the stuck shifter into gear (it won't budge out of park). If the vehicle has been stopped and put into park momentarily in a hazardous area, e.g., a railroad track, and if the shifter stick is stuck in park, then the vehicle can not be moved off of the track until the shifter can be moved and the drivetrain engaged. Turning the engine off does not help. The amount of time before the running car with stuck shifter can be put into gear seems to be random, I.e. after the engine has been running for a minute or so. The dealer who sold me the car seems to be aware of other complaints of this nature from Corvette C6 A6 owners.

Arrived home after a short drive, automatic shifter button would not depress so I was locked out of reverse and park, only have neutral and drive. Also was unable to turn car off, had to remove negative battery cable to keep from draining battery. With battery reconnected the accessories are still on and can't be turned off unless negative is removed. Also the car will not start in neutral.

When I had the motor checked proactively the exhaust valve guides were outside of GM specifications. This defect can cause the head of a valve to snap off and destroy the engine. The engine will stop working immediately, causing the power steering and power brakes systems to fail. The valve failure can cause an oil spill onto the road if the engine is compromised. There have been numerous documented cases of engine failure as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder. This can cause a catastrophic accident or fire. GM is very aware of this issue, but refuses to do anything about this huge safety risk to drivers, passengers, and nearby vehicles if the engine fails going down the road. I was forced to spend in excess of $3K to insure I did not harm anyone or myself. Best regards

  • 16,000 miles
My GM service request numberb is:[xxx].the automatic gear selector lever occasionally got stuck in park (P) and took a long dangerous time to get it worked loose and functioning properly. I lived with it for several months, but it got progressively much worse and more dangerous. I spoke to other Corvette owners and found out that I had a common safety problem for my model. I finally took the car to the dealer that sold it to me (mountain view Chevrolet) who said they had seen a lot of this defect and they then charged me nearly $600 to correct this dangerous defect. Not right!!!! it should have been recalled from the get-go and fixed promptly without charge. Unable to move in traffic, get out of the way of danger, or off of railway tracks is a potential killer. There should be a safety recall.
