CarComplaints.com Notes: What’s that smell – it’s a tad sweet with a tinge of chemical toxicity? If you own a 2011 Cruze it’s probably a coolant leak. It’s a widespread and notorious problem for the car and is the subject of a class-action lawsuit filed in the state of New York. And that’s not the only problem 2011 owners face…

Many say the 2011 model year suffers from a throttle lag that is probably due to a fauly electronic throttle control. The problem is signifigant enough that some owners say they are too scared to drive their cars. Those that do get behind the wheel often say their transmission isn’t shifting properly and problems start occuring as early as 15,000 miles.

All of this leads us to say you’re probably better off without this car’s headaches (they’re probably chemically-induced anyway).

Cruze 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. While attempting to make a 3-point turn, the vehicle was shifted into reverse, but failed to engage. The contact stated that after four attempts, the vehicle was able to shift into reverse, but the vehicle failed to accelerate and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. Also, a whistling sound was heard coming from the engine compartment. After the vehicle was coasted to the side of the roadway, turned off, and restarted, the vehicle operated correctly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised the contact to take the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer for diagnostic testing and repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would tow the vehicle to winter Chevrolet (3750 century ct., pittsburg, ca 94565). The dealer diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.

When taking off from stopped position the car jerked and would not shift to second, without tapping the gas peddle. After pulling into where I live, I stopped and tried to drive forward but it would not move only in reverse would the car move. The car is in the shop now. Still don't know what is wrong. I will never buy another Chevy Cruze.

My car just went out. No warning no nothing. The dashboard wend haywire and was unable to read anything at all (speed, RPM, fuel or temp). The ignition downshifted on its own almost causing an accident while I was on the highway. Once safely off of the highway I tried to park the car in a proper parking space so that I could inspect the issue and it wouldn't reverse and shortly after would no longer go forward.

I was driving home on a highway during rush hour. The traffic was very slow moving - about 10 mph. After slowing to almost a complete stop, I pressed the accelerator and could not get the car over 3 mph. I was able to get off an exit and pull over. When I turned the car off and back on again, the car would not move forward at all - only in reverse. I had it towed to a mechanic, where I found out I have forward transmission failure - under 89K miles on the car and a 2011!

The car jerks when brakes are applied at a red light, sometimes it jerks very hard. It lags when trying to accelerate after a stop, dip, or speed bump. Delearship claims it's a break pedal position sensor. Yet when I took it in my check engine light was not on, but they said it's a solid code. (P057C) and I've taken it many times to the dealership and they never told me it had a code and I've had this jerking problem for 2 years now.

2011 Chevy Cruze transmission problem. Occasional hesitation accelerating, clunking jerking transitioning through gears accelerating or slowing down while driving on city streets and highway. Tried to accelerate on highway and car took a long while to get up to speed while other cars behind me were honking horns for me to speed up. Dealer says all is fine and that's just how the transmission and turbo engine is! can never duplicate this problem. Now no longer under warranty, the dealer is willing to keep the car for a longer period. GM says it would "see" what they could do after the dealer physically inspects the transmission at my cost. The dealer charges $145. Per hr. Labor rate!! I went to another mechanic and had them change the transmission fluid because the dealer said the fluid doesn't need and he said it was black! had it changed after I read complaints on carcomplaints.com. I am just afraid that it will quit on me while traveling at high speed! I can't afford to spend money on a new trans if I will continue to have the same problems. GM should have a full recall on the 2011 Cruze. The car had only 29,000 mi. On it the first time I complained and now it has 69,000 and the problem manifests itself a little more frequently but not on a weekly basis. I am at my wits end and the problem is not in my head. People are in danger and GM isn't "owning" this problem. Extremely disappointed. I've maintained this vehicle faithfully with oil changes, etc. Since day one...responded to all recalls. Not going to dealer again. Always have something to repair or replace.

I have had numerous issues with this vehicle, with today ending in loss of power while doing 70mph on interstate 95N. Prior to this issue, my dashboard and radio would flicker on and off, then the message "service stabilitrak" would pop up and go away. This morning while driving on 95N my vehicle lost all its power causing me to pull off onto the shoulder. My car cut off and would not cut back on for about two minutes. When I cut it back on, my car began to shake and code P0723 (speed sensor) popped up. This nearly scared me as I could have ended up in a major accident. Now, my car is at the shop and the transmission has died. I see numerous complaints on the same issue but no recall released. I will be without a vehicle and upside down on my car now. I have complained to Chevrolet before about my vehicle randomly shutting off, but I guess this will not go noticed until the worst happens.

The shifter in the transmission broke. Had a licensed mechanic at christian brothers to run a diagnostic test on it for warranty reasons. He found out that this is a frequent problem with these cars and informed me that there was a manufacture alert on this part. To replace this one part the entire transmission must be replaced. There is less than 100,000 miles on the car. Giving an alert does not rectify the problem nor does it limit the dangers. A person is unable to shift the gears while driving. I feel this to be extremely dangerous. Chevrolet should be responsible for replacing this part.

When I am driving down the high way or if I am going up the hill my vehicle feels like it is going to stall so I have to pull over to the side of the road. It also was a salvage title and I had no idea when I bought it I found out it was a salvage vehicle after I took it to the dealership to fix my recall in which they claim they fixed my recall but I took it to another mechanic and they told me the recall was not fixed. The recall was a transmission control module. Also when I bought the car I took it back three times and they said since I paid cash for it there was nothing they could do I feel like this was a lemon.
