Car doesn't start on first attempt. It tries, then even after I release the key it continues to start, like its stuck, I have to pump the gas to get it to start, and it acts flooded. I have spent close to $5000 dollars, brakes, wheel bearings, emergency brake. The front end began to feel very loose. The problem was that the struts prematurely failed and created a very dangerous driving condition. Replaced mounts struts etc etc this car has been a nightmare I bought this car new out of the dealer. 2005 new problem steering wheel is making a grinding noise dealer is saying $1300 to repair it when does it stop GM / Chevy needs to fix this cars at no cost.

I feel very strong vibrations and grinding in the brakes and the brakes become very stiff and push up against me when applying pressure. It will continue to do this until the ABS and tc lights turn on then it runs ok. The mechanics found a speed sensor error when running diagnostics and replaced the left front hub bearing. A day or so later the same thing happened. They did the entire repair again just in case they had defective parts with the same result. They tried bleeding the lines and searching for bad wires, etc until they ran out of ideas. I spent the better part of a month with my 05 Equinox in the shop and significant funds on repairs and the issue is still not resolved. It has gotten so bad that I am now forced to get rid of the vehicle. My keys also began getting stuck in the ignition until the entire thing had to be disassembled and ignition switch system replaced. I have since been researching these problems, especially the ABS issue and have learned that I am surprisingly one of many with the exact same issue. I don't understand how Chevrolet can get away with such a defect without issuing a recall.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, she attempted to apply the brakes, but the brake pedal would not depress. The vehicle coasted to a stop. The contact stated that she then removed some of the anti lock braking fuses herself and the failure had not recurred. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 126,000.

All problems arose when the brake from the driver's side would shake when braking. We had the shoes and the pads changed and the problem seemed to be solved for about a year. Then the problem began again but this time the brakes would squeak when braking and then they began to tighten and the brake would lock itself and began to smoke because of the friction the pad and the brake disc were creating since the brake would remain locked. This was only on the drivers side. When this occurred the friction made the whole wheel rim get hot and began producing a burning smell from the brake pad. The caliber, shoes, pad and disc had to be replaced for both front brakes. The brakes continue to squeak when breaking. Now, the motor heats up to the red zone, the check engine light comes on even if their is anti-freeze in the engine. When accelerating the motor cools down, but if the speed is less than 35mph the motor heats up more. Based on other comments from drivers with the same make, model and year they noticed that the problem has come up to be the head gaskets. This problem has created many problems with the engine and is becoming a safety hazard when their is still a possibility that the breaks will lock up again and possibly spark fire if the problem is not fixed. We have not used our vehicle because of these issues we fear that not fixing the costly problem may damage other parts of the vehicle. We know we are not alone and that other drivers have the same problem with the Chevy Equinox 2005.

Car doesn't start on first attempt. It tries, then even after I release the key it continues to start, like its stuck, I have to pump the gas to get it to start, and it acts flooded. ABS and traction control lights on. When I press on the brakes it feels stuck at the top and grinds and pulsates even though my brakes are good. I've had my speed sensors replaced twice, problem still ongoing. I have to push with all my weight for the brakes to "break through" what ever its stuck on and work, then they lock up. That's when the ABS/traction control lights come on, then I know the ABS is not trying to work and my brakes will stop me. I've almost crashed into things too many times.

While driving ABS warning light came on. ABS brakes occasionally grabbed when stopping. Now (week later) it grabs at every stop and ABS light comes on everytime you stop and then stays on until car is turned off. When braking feels like there is no control and car will not stop. Scared to drive it - so it is now parked until we can take in for repair $$$$$$$. found many complaints while searching for answers. Not everyone knows to complain here. Hope one more will help before it is too late.

ABS system with brakes huge fail - couldn't stop. ABS and no traction light elluminated...dealership diagnosed bad hub, replaced. Same issue occurred with 3 days...dealership said old code, cleared. Same problem occurred, going to dealership for a third time. No brakes at low speeds when ABS tries to engage...once lights eluminate brakes work normally. Other people have had issue, dealership not sure of how to fix...should be a recalled issued. Have a feeling its a failing wire harness that the dealership won't acknowledge.

The vehicle ABS system start to fail at 50,000 miles. When you start driving the vehicle it makes the ABS diagnostic and fail the diagnostic. It's continue to make the diag. While your are driving until it fail. Then the vehicle continue operating normally but without ABS and traction control. The ABS and traction control lights is on. If you brake in bad whether the wheels lock and ABS don't protect. 3 different mechanics try to find the fault unsuccessful. They replaced, ABS modules, some brake parts and other parts but the fail continue. This is a very dangerous situation.

I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox ls. I purchased the vehicle January 2009 seemed to be driving pretty good. I took it out of town and as I began to stop at the stop light the steering felt loose and the wheels moved side to side on its own. I thought it strange but kept on driving. Started up the on ramp and the steering wheel had a loose like play in it. Didn't think anything of it. Started to excel onto the highway and as I began to reach 60 miles per hr the front end started moving loosely left to right. Then I started reaching 65 miles per hr and the front bounced and wobbled as if it were going to drop. I had to go 75 miles per hr before the jiggling of the front end of the van stopped. The van drove great at 60 or less. Whenever putting on the brakes there would be a crunching noise as if a pole was in the way keeping the foot brake from pushing down to the floor. I would have to lightly lift my foot then push it down quickly to stop the van safely. This is very dangerous and should have been taken care of before selling the vehicle.

I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox that I purchased used in March 2009 from johnny londoff Chevrolet. I have been taking it to the dealer for regular maintenance and they would say everything is working properly. I've been experiencing alot of problems with this car since I've purchased it. The air didn't work & I paid to get it fixed only for it to go out again. When I start it sometimes it doesn't want to start, I hear noises like it's misfiring when it does start. I recently had the vehicle serviced & had a multipoint inspection & was told again everything is working properly only to be driving home & when I tried to stop the brakes don't work. I could have had an accident & my child was in the car as well. I had it towed back to them to find out what caused this & they said the hub bearing needs to be replaced & the harness needs to be replaced. It's not gonna be cheap to fix as I'm not under warranty. I want this to be investigated as to why this happened without any warning since I've only had the car about 1 year & 8 mos. The mileage when I bought the car was 53010 & since I have had it I'm only at 62567 miles. I need answers just like others experiencing some of the same problems.

2005 Chevy Equinox, purchased new from dealer in summer 2005. Front brake rotors have been vibrating excessively since about 15K miles. Rotors have been replaced (which is way too early). Ignition cylinder (where the key goes in and turns...) had to be replaced in the first 5K miles (took a week - dealer was unable to repair and had to get parts from somewhere else). Front tires show excessive wear on outer edge, even after maintenance. Two tires replaced ~30K miles due to tread being worn. Experienced a blowout on the interstate (at highway speed) of another tire at around 40K miles. Then replaced two other tires.

I am submitting this to inform you of the horrible quality and safety of my 2005 Chevrolet Equinox lt, w/ 3.4L engine. I have just had my engine's headgaskets blow-out at 43,000 miles on a car that has been maintained exactly to manufacturer's specification. The car's braking system is also dangerously under powered. I have worn through two sets of rotors and pads already in 43,000 miles. I do not drive aggressively either. The brakes wear out too quickly and when the rotors warp the braking distances skyrocket and the car vibrates uncontrollably while applying them. This car is a total lemon as I am sure I am not the only person reporting this. Just read some reviews on the 2005 Equinox and you will see - the 3.4L engine put in this car is a design embarrassment for GM. We need some NHTSA assistance, as Chevrolet does not stand behind this product.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. While approaching a stop light and depressing the brake pedal at speeds under 25 mph, the brake pedal fell into the floorboard and the vehicle continued to accelerate into an intersection. The brakes would not engage. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where they found the transmission module was defective. Repairs were made under the contacts factory warranty. On a separate occasion, while utilizing the cruise control mechanism, he tapped on the brake pedal to shut off the cruise control and it would not deactivate. He continued to depress the brake pedal and moments later, the cruise disengaged. There were no repairs made to the cruise control mechanism. There were no recalls on his vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 50,000.
