The Chevy Equinox has a history of water leaking into the spare tire wheelwell. My 2007 Equinox is no exception. It was repaired in 2009 under warranty. The repair lasted for a while then the wheelwell started filling up with water again. Last summer I was using a wet and dry vac to take the water out, only to have it fill up later on. GM put out a maintenance bulletin in 2009 for this problem. Their instructions did not fix the problem. There is no recall for this, why I don not know. The water creates a terrible smell, fogs up the windows on the inside, creates ice on the inside of the windows during the winter, can create mold throughout the carpeting and seats and is just a complete pain in the ass to keep dealing with this. Why has there been no recall on this issue? many, many, many complaints are out there on this problem with no coverage from GM. This is not an owner cause. It is a manufacturing cause. Owners of the Equinox need a recall inorder to take care of this without payments from the customer. Check it out and see how big this problem is. This is a problem with various GM vehicles and years.

Hello, I noticed a horrible mildew smell about a couple of weeks ago when I had changed the cabin air filter. Never had an issue until then, I took out the cabin filter thinking that I had not properly sealed the housing only to find that it was secured properly and it smells fine. This is very frustrating since I am very knowledgeable about cars. I have read tons of posts about water leaking into the spare tire well and I looked there but found no water and the smell is not coming from that location. Does anyone have any other recommendations or other know how to what I can do to rid the car. I just sprayed fabreeze on the carpet.

My Equinox is full of water where the spare tire is and it the water has leaked all into the rugs. I did not know how this was happening until the past rain storm. When we looked at the spare tire compartment it was full of water. My car smells like mildew and my daughter has had a horrible cough for the past few weeks. I fear she has mold in her lungs. When I go online there are multiple complaints on this same issue. It seems there is a faulty seal and it leaks all through the car. It took years to get the recall for the electrical issues in my care that broke down at least 5 times from faulty spark plugs. Now Chevy wants me to $370 for them just to look at the car. Please look into as I cannot afford the cost of this and my car makes squishing noises and smells so horribly that I probably cant even sell it.

Rear tire well filled with water that was stinky and moldy. All leaked into the cab of the Equinox, thus making the carpet stinky and moldy too. There is obviously a leak somewhere in the hatch making the tire well fill up all the time. A co-worker of mine has the same car, make, model and year and has the same problem.

In July of 2010, I noticed the sound of liquid coming from the back that wasn't normal. I just assumed at this point that it was my gas and I just never paid attention to it...I had convinced myself of that because I knew we didn't have drinks or anything in the car. In December, my husband accused me of having a milk cup in the car from my son. Nothing there, no food or drinks, etc. As we were looking for whatever was causing this terrible smell that smelled like a milk cup had sit in 100 degree temperature in my car, we noticed the carpet was wet. The smell was so bad that we had to roll the windows down and in January where we live it is 10 to 40 degrees, so either temperature...not warm enough for windows down. I was then accused of spilling the milk...crazy! I knew I had not! I got to reading online and found out about the leak in the spare tire well. My husband felt so bad because I did not do it! the water was standing in my spare tire well and leaking out into the whole back floorboard! soaking wet! that explained why every time we rode the car we got sick...literally sick. From upset stomachs, to stuffy noses, to burning eyes and noses, etc...no kidding! mildew or mold...it doesn't matter! neither are good. GM says they won't pay for or even look at for free. Just to have diagnosed is $80 not including the repair! they say I could have left the liftgate open when it rained...oh come on!!!!!!!! just own up to it and fix your problems! if that were the case I wouldn't have left it there for 6-8 months!!!! I would have sucked it up with a shop vac at least before it flooded my car and made us all sick! I am very upset with GM regarding this issue. My car is out of warranty and GM will not fix their issues that "how many others are having again"? this is uncalled for and very poor business for our american's employment, people will start buying foreign made! need a resolution and not out of my pocket!!!

My 2007 Chevrolet Equinox keeps taking on water in the spare tire compartment in the rear of the vehicle. When driving down hill, the water will enter the inside of vehicle thus wetting the carpet on the floor of the vehicle. How the water enters the vehicle can not be determined. The vehicle has been resealed around the rear door of the vehicle and this has not solved the problem. The water must be entering the vehicle from the undercarriage. I have read complaints from other 2007 Chevrolet Equinox owners. Based on their complaints, they are not getting any resolution from General Motors. This moisture in vehicle can cause mildew to occur in the vehicle. This can be hazardous to the occupants.

2007 Chevy Equinox. Water leaks into spare tire well. I never had occasion to look in the spare tire well as I have never had a flat tire so I don't know when it started leaking. But after checking on the internet I find that this is an ongoing problem with this vehicle from the very first time that GM started producing this vehicle.

I had to have my trunk compartment replaced and some areas around the frame of the body re-sealed due to excess water accumulating in the spare time area. I was first told by the dealer repair shop that it was a defect but when I requested reimbursement GM denied that the dealer ever told them this. I believe GM is denying that there are some structural problems with this year and model and my fear is that another year down the road there will be other issues with the frame/body of this model vehicle. Also, it bothers me that we are encouraged to "buy american" but the american car makers do not want to stand up to their promise of good makemanship. I am disappointed and especially with the dishonesty at the corporate level of this corporation.

The interior floor of my 2007 Chevy Equinox is wet. There is a leak somewhere in this vehicle and when I googled "my Equinox leaks" there are many others with the same problem. I noticed a smell in the car a few months ago and cleaned the entire car from top to bottom and found nothing that would cause any orders. This order smells like mold and chemicals mixed together. It is awful. As I was cleaning the car to find the smell I noticed the rear passenger floors were wet, not damp, wet. I have tried everything to get rid of the water but nothing works. The other internet positing, which there are problem a good 100 or more, all have the same problem as mine. GM has ignored their requests for help. Please help us get GM to fix this defect. Thank this is a health issue, the smell this problem is creating is toxic....
