Parked the car in the garage, and came back out a few minutes later and gasoline fumes were overwhelming. Removed it from garage and saw puddle of gasoline near the back gas tank, underneath the car. Before I took it to the dealership the next morning, looked up online to see if anyone else had experienced this problem with this model of car. I found six (6) pages of complaints for the same thing. It was the pressure hose to pump line resulting from a faulty pump. I also noted that the majority of these pump failures happened around the same mileage, which tells me there should be some type of recall on these pumps and pump lines. If I had not gone back into the garage, I am sure I would have had a major fire in the garage or in the car.

I been smelling gas for over a week outside then inside of car. Was told I can drive and bring to dealership asap as long as there is no leaks. I took car to the dealer in jenkintown, pa and was told there was a leak from fuel pump line to engine. I notice several customers have the same problem since 2010 and now it's 2012. Why haven't this been on a recall due to it can be very dangerous with a gas leak when a customer smells gas but don't see a leak. Customers can think maybe gas spilled a little on car but when you smell gas when you are driving, there is an issue. I know customers like myself had paid for this service which should have been a recall. I had to pay $949 for part and labor which is totally unfair when I'm not the only one with this issue. I will report to consumer report regarding 2007 Chevy Equinox with all the issues I had from getting a transmission to now gas leak. Very very dangerous!

Several months back I started noticing a strong gas smell coming from the right side rear near the exhaust of my vehicle. I have been told that the tank has to be dropped (a very expensive service) to determine the issue with fuel and that there is a visible leak when the car is parked and running. I have noticed that there are numerous complaints about this same problem from other 2007 Chevy Equinox owners. This is obviously a manufacture defect that needs to addressed by a proper recall. This defect is very dangerous and could be fatal if not fixed.

The fuel module is leaking gas down the passenger side of the gas tank (four inches from the exhaust pipe). Chevrolet has this same problem on the cobalt and it was recalled. The Equinox has not yet been recalled for this problem. This is a potential thermal event.

This vehicle started having a strong odor of gas that was filling up my garage and home. Took it to the dealership who told me that this car is very dangerous to drive due to huge gas leak. It cost $300 to have the fuel tank dropped to find out the problem. I was told it was the fuel pump assembly which cost $800 to get fixed. I was also advise this is becoming a common problem with these car. I have a newborn and a 5 year old that was riding in the car with a gas leak. My car has to remain in the shop until I can come up with the money to have it repaired. This is not only a health issue but someone could die as a result of this. A recall is needed immediately before someone life is taken. If something is not done soon, I will be contacting the media and have this issue placed on the news due to several other complaints about this same problem from other people.

Very strong smell of gasoline fumes coming from right rear of vehicle. Discovered a puddle of gasoline directly under the gas tank- the fuel was leaking from above and dripping along the side of the tank. Took the vehicle to dealer for service and they found that the fuel pump module was leaking. Fuel pump/hose assembly was replaced under powertrain warranty at no cost. Clearly a very dangerous situation with the potential for fire. With two young children that ride in this car I find it very concerning that there are so many similar fuel leak complaints with this vehicle and no recall has been issued.

I have had my Equinox since 2008; it is a 2007 model. I have had continual repairs on the electrical rear lights and the belt tensioner, but this next repair is by far the worst. When the car was in park position the odor of gasoline was strong around the perimeter of the car. When driving, the smell of gas circulated into the air conditioning system penetrating the inside of the car. The smell was strongest on the outer side by the gas tank. I took the car to get a diagnostic test and found a leak above the gas tank. Further inspection revealed the fuel pump was leaking gasoline, about six inches from the muffler. This defect could have resulted in serious injury or fatalities as I regularly carry children in the back seat. This car is only 5 years old and it seems to require too many repairs for the few years/miles it has traveled. As a thoughtful vehicle owner, I take precautions to preserve the life of my vehicle through regular maintenance and covered storage from natural elements. Certainly these kinds of defects are not an expected occurrence in this kind of vehicle. Disappointed Equinox owner :(
