My hatch will intermittently stop opening up. Sometimes it works for about a month, but the button will only activate and open hatch on one side of button when pushed just right, then randomly it will stop working again and the button will not open the hatch.

Equinox LT 2.4L I4

Hatch release became intermittent, then stopped working altogether. Upon examination harness had buildup of white powder, especially at external entry points. I believe this to be salt, from constant commuting on roads services in the winter with salt brine. the mixture sticks to cars and rots parts. I had to have the entire harness inside the hatch replaced.

If it rains, my back hatch wont open. If I wash my car, my back hatch wont open, it it gets wet at all, my back hatch wont open. Super annoying. You have to wait a few days or break out the hair dryer to dry it out before you can open it.

I took it to the dealership and they told me that it looked like the switch was staying engaged and the entire thing needed to be replace for like $300 but they wouldn't know that for sure until they took it apart and if they did take it apart, I may as well replace the entire switch. I told them that it only happens when it gets wet. I think that a waterproof seal has worn down or broken and it it's letting water get in there and shorting it out.

The first time it happened, I had 4 people from my job with me, a water cooler, and everyone's luggage. It started raining really hard and we were stuck in the rain trying to open the hatch to get our stuff in the back. Finally, we had to open the back doors, lay down the seats and bring everything through the back seat to get it into the back hatch! We were super wet and I was super embarrassed!

Now it does it all the time. I'm really starting not to like this car! I paid over $20,000 and cant even open my back hatch to get $100 worth of groceries in there unless I spend $300!!
