This is the second time this has happened! I'm stuck 40 minutes away from home with my 6 year old daughter! Last time it was possibly due to not changing my oil until I was over the 3,000 mile oil change, but I wasn't even close to 6,000 miles since last oil change. This time I'm at 2,000 miles since last oil change but the symptoms appear the same. I'm very upset because this issue could be dangerous had it happened outside of city/parking lot! I felt it stalling pulling into parking lot, but figured I was imagining. As I attempted to back out, my vehicle stopped, twice, then I decided to pull into parking space and call tow truck. I'm inconveniences because once again I have to miss work and once again I'm lucky to have been in a safe (safe enough) location. I no longer like this vehicle and if there's a class action lawsuit filed for this, I'm in!

I purchased this car to use solely for long travels. After two failed trips, Im scared to even drive it. I drove two hours to Savannah and pulled into the hotel parking lot and the car cut off before I could pull all the way end. I started it back up and thankfully it started but the check engine light came on. Needless to say, I used an uber for the rest of that trip. I had no issues on the drive back home and the check engine light was no longer on. Everyone told me to check the gas cap; but I took the car to the mechanic as soon as I got home. He stated the car drove fine for him and it could possibly be the cam shaft sensor but he wasn't 100% sure. He insisted it was safe to drive. Fast forward to one weekend later (today). Im driving to Atlanta and the same thing happens. This time, I'm in traffic. Traffic goes from 65 miles an hour to 20...

As I'm inching thru traffic I noticed that when I touched the brakes lightly it feels as if I'm punching the gas. This instantly alarms me that something isn't right. I'm 35 miles from my destination and quickly realized that the car wants to cut off once the car start decelerating to lower speeds. It's ok as long as I'm going 65 miles per hour. Unfortunately traffic wasn't moving fast so I had to go from 70 to 20... A pretty gradual yet dramatic stop for the engine. This occurred several times throughout that trip. I wasn't until I was 15 miles from my exit - the car finally shut off, while on the highway. Thankfully I was only going 12 miles per hour at the time but that was quite a scary feeling to know that ur seconds from being stranded far from home and in the middle lane of highway traffic.

As a female, I feel completely unsafe driving this car anywhere else. I'm at my hotel now and I was searching to trouble shoot the issue only to find that others have been having similar issues. This seems to be an ongoing issue with this particular model. Ive only had the car a year and Im completely disappointed in my purchase. I wish I had seen this site prior to my purchase. I planned on giving the car to my 17 yr old son but I wouldn't sell this car to my enemy. This car needs to be recalled and repaired. I'm just thinking about how I'm going to get home from this trip.

2.4 Engine cam shaft RELUCTOR. As if the cam sensor wasn't a big enough pain in the ass for the millions of people who own this exact car, you're potentially really in trouble. My 2013 Equinox with the 2.4 had the cam position sensor replaced once. That would be one engine code, not sure which. This is a totally different code. Basically when they take off the valve cover (300$ job) they find that your exhaust cam shaft has a reluctor wheel which has shifted due to poor engine design. This reluctor is pressure fitted into your exhaust cam shaft. To replace this and make your engine go vroom again, they'll have to replace your entire cam shaft, AND timing kit. This is absolutely essential to make your engine go vroom again.

It's costing me 2800$ TOTAL, it could cost less, but we decided to take it in to get looked at first (100$) and get an oil change (40$) the rest comes out to about 2800$ total. This is a big deal. We were looking at potentially replacing the entire engine, or getting a whole new car. This would be the cheapest way out of this problem. Take care of your engine, get regular oil changes, baby the engine or you could be next.

Beware, do not buy one of these cars. A 90's JDM Japanese car will last you a life time without hardly breaking. Get one of those before you buy a GM garbage car. They're not made to last, they're made to break in a few years so you have to keep buying them. Be smart.

My 2013 Chevy Equinox engine would suddenly die/turn off when I stopped at a red light or at an intersection. It didn't make an odd noise, nor did it have any jerking motion as one might expect. The engine would simply die/turn off. I'd have to put my hazards on, put the car in park, and restart the car to get it going again. I learned to put the car in neutral at stops or intersections to keep the engine from dying. Awful experience and glad no one crashed into me from behind.

I bought a 2013 Equinox about 2 years ago, with a rebuilt title and 23,000 miles on, the car was running just fine, until a couple of days ago coming from work in the freeway I slow down due to traffic and at times to accelerate, the car stalled and turned off in the middle of the freeway, I turned it back on and slowly accelerating I was able to get it running in a faster pace, then I was driving 60 miles just fine. I called the mechanic while driving and I went straight to his house, he cleaned the throttle and the oil was 1 quarts short. He got the computer one and got a reading P0011, that is possibly the two solenoid valve going bad. I ordered both of them online and I haven't received it yet. In the meantime I still need to use the car to go to work and praying to help me for the next couple of days until I replace the camshaft and the intake valves. I hope this will fix my problem. If anyone has a better diagnostic, please let me know. I think I will never buy a Chevy again....

2 different sensors replaced after the mechanic checked the codes. Issue still persistent-I believe I have been dealing with this for about a year or so. This issue should warrant a recall due the safety hazard and the fact that it's multiple cars with the same issue.

Chevy has really disappointed with this unresolved problem.

I purchased my Equinox brand new from Chevy dealer it had zero miles, my first : American car! I am 5 months away from paying it off. Driving home from work one day on the fricken' highway going 65 MPH, car just dies. The speedometer starts going down, the gas pedal had no resistance and I was freaking out! Luckily I was able to pull over to the shoulder but was very close to the passing cars. I tried to start it nothing! Ended up towing my car and there it sits!

I do not know where to start, it does not turn over but makes a whining noise. I had a man look at it and said it's my timing chain and it could have damaged my motor, so that was worst case scenario. I haven't towed it to a shop, since I do not have the money to pay for a NEW MOTOR or a rebuilt one. Hell, I am still paying on the car!!!

I do not know. People are giving opinions but since I am reading threads everyone seems to have the same issue and I am wondering why this has not been addressed. I want to think it is something minor and a car being 5 1/2 years old could not possibly need a new motor!!!

HELP!

On March 16th 2016 I purchased a used 2013 Chevy Equinox. I traded in my 2005 Toyota Camry. The total price of the car was $17,500/$543.17 a month. Car ran great for 1st 8 months. Took it in for my second oil change and mechanic told me my car was out of oil. Wow, a 2013 car running out of oil. Oil will not last between oil changes. Oil changes aren't cheap. $70-$85 depending on where I take it.

My next issue was last summer. I was driving from Pittsburgh to Charleston SC. On the way home my check engine light came on. Engine power reduced warning came on. I was in the middle of bum-FK West Virginia. I made it home luckily. I needed a sensor. $350

Over past few months I notice that car wants to stall out. I was like OK. It's not real bad. Then on September 1st my car would stall out every time I was at stop sign or red light. So I took it to my local mechanic. He telling me take to the Chevy dealer.

I have a low paying job. It's tough paying car payment, insurance, and repairs plus all my month cost of living bills. Chevy needs to be aware that they made a bad car and send out a recall. I'm going to have borrow money from parents to pay the repair(s).

I'll never buy another American made car again. As soon as this paid off I'm buying a Toyota. They should learn something from them. My 2005 Camry had 250,000+ never once had an issue.

I hope Chevy read these complaints !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been complaining about this Issue for a long time. Way before the warranty (I had paid for the extended warranty) ran out. The car feels like it will stall any minute and it never gets into the right gear. I'm told it's an oil consumption issue, but that's after Ive paid for a mess of other things to see if that was it. GM did give me a deal (HAHAHA) because it was now out of warranty of $2000 for the repair.

I drive A LOT and have had all types of cars/suvs but this just drove awful. The car wasn't cheap and with all the repairs/oil changes/parts, I have spent over $6,000. I still owe a few monthly payments of $435. Crazy right ...

When I spent the $2000 I thought; ok, that's done. It should be ok to give to my daughter who hardly drives. Kinda like a new car after all those repairs. Well it still drives like garbage and just stopped/stalled out on the highway. GREAT.

Equinox LT 2.4L I4

Bought the 2013 Equinox LT in 2016; drove for 2 years no problem; since the last 30 days, happened randomly twice so far; the rpm would be slightly lower than usual ~500 instead of close to 1000rpm; engine would shake significantly upon idle/stepped-on-brake, and would completely stall when I let go of brake pedal, with or without stepping on gas pedal; if step on gas pedal hard enough, the car would get passed onto 2nd gear very roughly and act normal as long as it stays above 2nd gear; otherwise, if gas pedal not applied or not applied enough, transmission failed to transfer from 1st into 2nd gear; car can be instantly restarted as of now and would act completely normal until another random time.

p.s. could be related to how car starts up, of the 2 incidents I had so far, as soon as I start the car, I could feel the abnormal vibration physically right away; if the car "starts right", engine would be smooth and no vibration, and stall would not happen throughout that entire particular run.

p.s.2 Imagine your are going uphill on 1st gear changing into 2nd on low rpm and engine stall (almost guaranteed if it's in "incident mode"), good luck applying the weirdly designed clutch-positioned "feet/hand-brake".

p.s.3 Considering selling car but paid $18500 in 2016, 2 years later, trade in value is ~$10000; not sure about averaging $4k/year yet, as opposed to if I keep it a few year longer, would become ~$2k/year. Dang it, it ruined my game plan man!

p.s.4 Without this issue, the overall Equinox driving feeling does feel firm, stable and nice. I once told myself, this is how a role model of modern car should be... well, at least for the past 2 years... hmmmm...

Frustrating. I am getting the runaround from Chevy and the dealership.

I live and work at the same place, therefore I don't drive as much as the average person. So why is my engine acting like I drive across the country every day? My car stalled multiple times, I took it into the dealership, they say: "you're out of oil silly"

Little do they realize, I just recently put oil in, and I got no notification that there was a problem until it stalled. I am fully aware that driving without sufficient oil is bad, and I know that for the amount that I drive (which is little) I am worrying too much about the amount of oil in my car. I shouldn't be putting in as much oil as I am...

The dealership connects the stalling problem to not having enough oil. I tell Chevy that there is a problem with their engines oil consumption. They say, take it to the dealer, you have a recall on your wiper blades.

I'm all in for a class action when it comes around (I hope it does), cause this is a serious dangerous issue that Chevy is avoiding.Stalling and nearly getting in an accident--no thanks!

I bought a Chevy Equinox 2013 for the first time ever in March 2016.

The car was driving well for a year. But out of the blue, there seems to be engine problems. The car would stall at low speeds. Yesterday after parking at a shopping mail parking lot, I tried to start the car and it started vibrating. The dashboard gave a initial message 'Stabilitrack error" and then "reduced engine power'.

After that the car stopped totally and had to tow it away to a garage.

The Mechanic just called me and told me that that the engine is no good and I have to replace the engine...total cost is $5000 !!

I definitely do not want to incur this cost and do not want to keep this Chevy Equinox anymore...Will never ever buy a Chevy product again in my life. Costly mistake.

Equinox LT 2.4L

Bought the car used from a dealer in April 2016 that had done a certified pre owned check on the car. Car ran great for test drive. Almost immediately after buying the car it started to act like the engine was braking as well as the transmission down shifting when slowing down to a stop. I didn't think much of it at first.

Then about 1 month after buying it, I got in vehicle started it up normally and when I put it in gear and began to drive it died suddenly, put into neutral restarted and it did the same thing, got it to keep running the 3rd time but it ran with a lot of hesitation until I got it up to about 25 mph. Ran fine rest of the day and then did it again that evening, same exact scenario. Ran fine for about 2 more weeks and did it again.

This time I called a buddy of mine that owns a garage and does all of my work and said you need to keep the oil changed in those Equinox vehicles and it might be a throttle body is dirty. Had oil changed with synthetic oil which was a quart low after only 3000 miles, throttle body was clean and he told me that on these cars the cam shaft sensor will get dirty and clogged if you don't keep the oil changed (which I never ran more than 3000 miles between changes but I don't know the previous owner may have not kept oil changed and the sensor may have been bad when I got it?). We agreed to drive it after oil change and see what happens? It is worse now than ever, daily event now, might be okay for a bit and then suddenly occur.

I'm taking in to get the cam shaft sensor replaced and hope it fixes the problems but I am concerned that with a problem that seems to be so prevalent that this doesn't seem to have a good solid answer listed anywhere on the internet? I'm sure Chevrolet knows this is an issue based on the number of complaints on this specific motor/car combo having this issue.

Why isn't this either a recall issue or well documented of what to do? It is a pretty dangerous problem the way it happens and without a check engine light on? My mechanic did find a code for it though when he hooked it up? I won't let my wife or kids drive it, this is not safe and its not like the car hasn't been taken care of or it looks like its in mechanically bad shape in anyway. That is what makes it so dangerous!

Update from Oct 31, 2016: Fixed car myself, simply fix, intake and exhaust sensor both have 1 bolt and simply electrical connection cap, took longer to take the heat shield and breather off and put back on than to replace the parts. These were most likely already oil clogged when I purchased vehicle and didn't get replaced by the dealer during inspection. Keeping the oil changed on schedule is obviously a key to keeping these sensors/solenoids from becoming dirty and clogged which causes the failure. If I would have had it fixed by a shop they told me $400 to do the job, each part is about $50 and you should probably go ahead and replace both the intake and exhaust sensor since they are right next to one another and so simply to do. If they aren't marked at the parts store make sure and ask the counter person to mark which one is which to avoid problems when you put them back in. They look pretty much exactly the same.

I really thought when I bought this car that this was the best car ever. I usually buy a FORD but I stepped out and bought a CHEVY. After all the issues I have had I regret this decision I should of stayed with FORD. So the trouble I am experiencing is I have brought my car in the shop and each time there is a problem. First my motor went out on my windshield wipers. Now this new thing took my car in on 8/23/16 and they tell me my timing chain needs to be foxed so $1995 later I fix it. 1 week later it is still idling so I make a apt take it in on 10/5/16 and they tell me my oil is low and I need a oil change. So I do that try to leave and now my car stalled on me 4 times. Take it right back and they tell me they not sure what is going on cause my check engine light is not even on. And then they charged me for a diagnostic when I just had one 1 month ago. I am PISSED. Like I don't have money to keep giving this dealership. This is ridiculous. I took the car to Suburban Chevrolet in Ann Arbor MI which I don't recommend anybody to go there at all.
