Impala LS 3.6L

Okay... Bought this 2002 Impala LS about 2 weeks ago, at 49,900 miles. (Thanks to AutoBeef) I was fully aware of the problems this vehicle seemed to entail, and proceeded with caution. Got a real good price on the car. Immediately after buying, got a radiator flush to get rid of that Dex-Cool crap. I bought the car from the original owner, who was kind enough to give me all his original service documents. About a week after driving the car, the gas gauge started to wildly move from full to empty. Okay. Not so bad. Definitely have read much worse things on here. Fairly annoying, for sure, but work-able with some help from that trusty trip odometer.
Now, in about a week I'm going to be driving about 600 miles south, so I figured I would just bring the car in and get this problem quoted. I also had them check the intake manifold gasket (Really don't want to run into that problem). Turns out the gasket is NOT leaking (thank the heavens....), however the fuel sending unit needs-a-fixing. Shop is replacing it, as I type, to the tune of $466. Though I am fairly pissed off, I'm happy about the gasket. Service records show the original owner had the recall done in 2005 (Adding sealant pellets to the gasket). Though I wish Chevy actually recalled the whole gasket, if it has held out this long, regular checks should keep this manageable.
Looking forward to having a working fuel gauge again. Will be knocking on wood hoping the car doesn't run into any major problems. Everything so far has been wonderful except for this gauge. Car drives WONDERFULLY. Lots of response and comfortable as a lounge chair and lemonade in 100 degree weather.
Hope this helps. Thanks AutoBeef, you kick ass.

the gas gauge on the car works only when the car is not moving when I am driving it reads any where from 3/4 tank to 1/4 tank I never know where it is and considering I drive 45 min to an hour back and forth to work and have a small child with me alot this is very nerve racking never knowing if I am going to run out of gas or not

The gas gauge always reads full. Then (i guess) when it's somewhat empty its starts going off. When it start "DINGING" it the level goes all the to empty, the it'll stop and goes back to full. If I really, really need gas, it would stay on. The thing is that if I'm on a hill (up or down) it goes off. If I'm just standing with the car on it goes off. But I never know how much gas is really in the tank. I'm a little nervous about taking long trips.

Impala Limited 5.7L
Ok i Bought a 2002 Impala back in 01. The car had 15 miles on it. Never had a problem until about May 20. I put $10 gas in my car and it read full. At that point I had to realize that gas was not that low at that time of the year. So I took it to a nearby car dealership that i got it from. He told me I either had a busted a fuse or I would need a new gas needle. So it turns out I need a new fuse. So I ended up paying about 345.50, Me being 24 at the time i really did not realize he ripped me the f*ck off. Then out of nowhere the damn car catches on fire. At that point it was out of line. I'm NOT BUYING 1 MORE CHEVY IM BUYING F*CKING FOREIGN. Thank you for reading
