problem #10

Impala LS 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 195,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

The ABS and traction control kicks on at weird times before failing and turning off. Normally if I remember I just turn traction control off when I get in but if I forget it's a pain in the ass as it always happens when I try to merge into traffic. It was fixed last fall when I fixed my Upper Intake Manifold but the issue is back again.

ABS light came on and I replaced the brakes shortly after that. It never went out. The brakes work fine so I just ignore it.

Impala LS 3.8L V6

I bought the impala 2 years ago with 55,000 miles on it and the same week the abs/traction control lights started coming on.Also the battery light, seat belt light, air bag light service engine light and a beeping sound from behind the dash also started coming on at the same time. The instrument cluster would just quit and the odometer would show all 8s or shut off and the gauges would just drop to zero while driving.I took it to to dealer and at first they said the body control module was bad, they changed it but the problem remains as well as the car will start and not start randomly.I mean you turn the key and nothing at all happens, minutes or hours later,it starts fine but the abs, trac lights come on,next they replaced both front bearing wheel hubs and the problem remains, now they replaced the abs traction control module and still the problem remains, the car is almost undriveable,so far,i've spent almost 2000 dollars and i'm getting very mad and frustrated with this car.If anyone has a definite fix to this problem, please email me and let me know.Thank you for letting me post my problem. One last thing,I think the last 20 years or so,chevrolet has been building nothing but cheap overpriced junk that they call cars and trucks,I will never own another chevrolet anything.Thank you for listening.

I couldn't stand the lights being on any longer...had my husband really dig into the problem and he he fixed it! Hopefully for good and fairly easily. He replaced a bad sensor for the brakes, which costs around $25.00, when doing so apparently a connection in the wiring harness to the sensor was also loose. These corrections made the traction control light and the brake light go out!

Now...on to the gas smell and usage that's been going on????

Of the thousands complains out there with this "Traction Crtl. & ABS" lights, these are a definite flawed design by GM Engrs. I'm afraid I could loose ctrl of my car anytime! This is terribly annoying!!! I think we should all write to GM and force them to issue a recall so we can move on with our lives.

There is no Fix for this!!! All they can do is reset or erase the code, and the lights are back! Replacing your hubs won't do any good either. If there's really a 100% fix for these problems, then we should all be smiling right now!

good luck!!!

When I am driving my car the abs/trac control kicks in then the ABS Traction Services Light comes on. We had the hubs and sensors replaced one week ago. The car ran fine for a couple of days. Then the traction control light came on again! Any suggestions? We have already put $800.00 into replacing the hubs and sensors.
