So my high beams have been out, common. Today, my High-Beam Out light came on. I had my girlfriend press the switch while I looked. All lights are working fantastic, just the switch doesn't let the high beams stay on, and the lights are so bright I only use them when people don't dim theirs.
It was approximately 2:30 when we pulled into U.S. Cellular to pay bills in Ellsworth. We smelled a very strong smell of fresh mushrooms. I investigated and noticed smoke rolling from the lever sleeve. I took out the screen underneath the steering wheel and separated the molding to get a better look. I then unhooked my battery and let it stop burning. All other and lights work. My high beams will come on and stay on too, but I have to screw with to get them to turn off, and the switch is extra stiff now. I sit in the car to make sure it doesn't burst into flames for about 10 min. after parking now.
P.S. GM.. My 7 day old infant girl was in the you bastards. Sure you've been "Overhauled", yet you still have responsibilities to make sure any faulty fire hazards, lighting, and steering issues are addressed, since you still make replacement parts, and the products bear your name made for your vehicles.
Update from May 10, 2015: I installed a new Multi Function Dimmer Switch I picked up online for $65.00. So far it works decent. Seems to have a break in period. Fresh out of the box, it feels cheap and worrisome. After about a week, it feels fresh. However; The Parking Light pull knob with interior dimmer needs replacing too. Until then, I have no dash lights.
