Malibu LS V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

I was leaving work yesterday and as I pulled out onto the road the car shut off. I lost power steering and I had to coast to a stop in a turn lane. I put the car into neutral to push it on to a side street and I decided to turn off the engine and start it again. It then started right up and I drove it home just fine. This morning it acted like it didn't want to start but did and then when I was leaving work today it won't start at all.

This is the third time I've had my car in repair regarding this problem. January, March & May. It stalls out while driving at a low rate of speed. It has also given me problems a few times trying to start. My mechanic had it twice and he brought it to a dealership - who said as it is an intermittent problem they were having trouble diagnosing it. I will never buy anything but a toyota or nissan again.

2001 Malibu stopped dead at red light at night while by myself. Could not start, no warning this was gong to happen - had to have towed to dealer. They replaced battery and positive battery cable - dealer said acid had swollen the cable and this is what caused the problem. Now the "bing bing" sound comes on and picture of battery shows up and goes away real quick. Took to dealer again yesterday. They said they can't find anything wrong with it. Am gong to put "For Sale" sign in window and sell asap.

Malibu 4.1L V6

For our first purchase of a vehicle it has been nothing but a nightmare. We purchased the vehicle with approx 40,000km on it and after just three months we discovered the signal light only works when it wants to. We took this to the dealership where it was purchased and supposedly nothing happened for them so they couldn't fix it. They told me that next time it happens stop where I am and they will come take my car and fix it. This would leave me without a vehicle. We have replaced the computer of the car because it wouldn't start one morning. We have gone through several sets of brakes not to mention calipers and rotors and cylinders, and I am guilty of driving like a grandma so there is no reason for the extensive repairs.

About a year ago the car started to stall out after being started to warm up in the winter, and has been getting worse still, stalling on the road whenever, and whereever, making me feel unsafe and very uncomfortable driving. Fortunately I have turned to a great dealership that is proud of what is sells and takes pride in the quality of craftsmanship in their vehicles which is more then I can say for the above mentioned having read the numerous complaints. It shocks me that they have ignored this problem for so long, and thus putting the lives of their consumers at risk every time they turn the key. What are you selling?

Thank you Mazda for making me feel safe again.

This one was pretty bad. Later in the day after my earlier complaint, the car died again. This time it died as I slowed the vehicle while approaching a curve. I lost power steering and almost had an accident. Fortunately no one was hurt.

Car died at a stop sign at the top of an off ramp on an interstate highway (i. e. the Oakland exit on I64 Eastbound). Car was still fairly cool (we had only traveled about 1.5 miles. Fortunately no one was hurt.

Car died in the middle of a busy intersection (i. e. Manchester & Big Bend in Saint Louis, MO) after waiting at the stop light. Fortunately, I was able to restart the vehicle before the light changed. There were no injuries. With these electrical problems (i. e. car dying and car not starting) occurring more regularly, I am worried that one time the car will die in an intersection and won't restart. Come on GM, recall this mess!

My 2001 Chevy Malibu died while driving. The engine didn't sputter or anything, the car just turned off leaving me without power. This has happened a number of times before (probably around two dozen times), but before I didn't know about this website. After learning about this site, I was convinced to complain every time it happens so there is a record of how common this occurs. The car had only been running for a few minutes and we had only traveled about a mile when it died. Specifically, it died in the middle of an intersection as the vehicle accelerated after a stop (we had already made several stops before it died). After stopping the vehicle and putting it into park, the Malibu started immediately.

My 2001 Chevy Malibu died on me 4x while driving. Sometimes dash warning lights don't come on unless you turn the ignition on and off. Otherwise it won't start. The dealer couldn't find anything wrong with it. They said it could be a bad ground, worn ignition switch or something causing a drop in amps to the BCM which could make it wig out. Big help they were.

Three times while driving, it just shut down on me. This is very dangerous. After the 2nd time I had it fixed by the used car dealer I purchased it from and he said it was a safety switch or something to let you know about oil, now it just happened again 4 mos. later, on a ramp onto the highway... luckily I didn't get rear ended
