My car is rusting around the gas cap. The dealer pretty much said too bad for you as the warranty is over and if I want it fixed, it will be $2400 or more. The paint is literally peeling off the car!

I did not do anything about the rust that started around the gas cap but it continued to get worse and bigger and you could tell it was moving in all directions. After a number of years, I met some people (different ones) who told me that my car shouldn't be rusting like that. So I went to the dealership and checked on it. This I had not done until June 2008 so the warranty was way over. They agreed it should not have happened and took my car in and replaced the rear quarter panel. It looks great now but they had the car for 3 weeks (very inconvenient) and the decals on the car are different now due to they must not have the ones that were on the original 2002 Malibu LS. They did not charge me for the repair but I saw the invoice and it was around $2200.00. Good thing I didn't have to pay.

I had paid to have my car rust protected...the warranty people say it's a mfg defect and won't cover it. The dealer says it's the warranty people place to pay for repairs...anyone know a good lawyer who specializes in car complaints?????
