My parents also have a 2004 Malibu and this makes me believe it was a factory issue. It started with the front right passenger door and the over a period of time they all started peeling off. I took it to a dealership to have it fixed and the cost was $100.00 per door. Do to the fact we had tried to glue the leather ourselves the dealership couldn't fix it over. The leather looks as though it was cut too small for the panels and the glue looks cheap and sparingly placed. The car interior looks like total cr@p with these long flaps hanging off the doors, all 4 doors. WHAT are my alternatives???? Just rip the interior off? It's not too pretty for selling the car or trading it in for a new one. OPTIONS PLEASE I'M ALL EARS and FED UP!!!!!!!
