Hello everyone out there who has a Chevy Chevy Malibu. Which in my opinion is a big big boo boo. I have been having problems with the power steering just going out for no reason at all. Chevy Dealer can not pinpoint what is causing this problem. Help Help Help!!!!!!!
I feel like I have made a huge mistake purchasing this vehicle. How can Chevy make a car and not know how to fix it. Am I going crazy or does that sound crazy. If anyone knows anything about how to fix this problem or if there are any recalls because of this problem, or if there is even a class action lawsuit for this please let me know. Thanks

Have had a continuing problem where the power steering alarm goes off and then I loose the power steering. This has been doing this off and on for about the last 15,000 miles and has been especially bad this summer. Shutting car off and restarting works sometimes other than that it could be the temp. as indicated in other complaints. I just wonder how many complaints are really out there about this complaint that do not get entered???

If the temp reaches 94F+ as soon as I start the car, the chimes go off and the radio states "power steering", no matter how many times I turn it off and back on until the temp cools off to about 90F and I turn the car off I have steering again but I have to turn the car off for the steering to start working again.

In Arizona we had a fleet of Malibu's 04-07 and our fleet manager called the Malibu's "Death Traps" because of the defects in the steering. Power Steering would fail with only a beep or two as warning. I mistakingly bought a 2005 Malibu without knowledge of a manufacture steering defect and have since had the power steering go out 11 times while i was on vacation in Arizona this past week
(March 18th-22 2008). My little sister also had the power steering go out while she was driving my car and almost got in an accident. Can you say LAWSUIT.

From day one I have issues with the steering. When backing up steering was hard to turn. Dealership replace a sensor. Now when passing, or speeding up, I loss steering, shook violently and the chime sounded. Back off the gas I had control again. This happen 6 times, now the dealership is looking deeper into the issues.

The steering wheel locking and tightening started as a mild nuance. It quickly grew into a few "close calls" that could have left me in the middle of an accident. By this time I was so ticked off, from other issues with this same vehicle, I decided to fix it myself. The give-away was the first time the car decided to not only lock up the steering wheel, but turn off completely while doing 55 on the highway. Turns out that one of the power leads going into the fuse box was never even tightened from the manufacturer. Worst yet, I was not able. The whole where the screw tightens this connection was never tapped all the way through, not allowing me to make a tight connection. I spent a few buck and bought a couple of thick washers to compensate for the space in order to create a tight connection. Never failed again. If you are experiencing this problem, check that fuse box... one of the red leads going in on the top side of the box. Mine showed arching and part of the fuse box melted with it. Not a happy camper.

Intermittent loss of power steering while driving and at times too much power steering. Either you are over steering or under steering. Very hazardous to have to make any quicks turns, i. e. trying to avoid something or someone in the road.

The steering on this car is crap! This car is equipped with electronic steering and sometimes while taking a turn the steering will become very stiff and hard to control. I brought the car to the dealership and they replaced the rack and pinion but the problem hasn't been fixed. They say they can't find the problem. This is a serious problem, I have a child who rides in the car and Chevrolet need to do something about this problem. On a few occasion's the car has lost steering completely. I will never buy another Chevy because of the service.

My power steering warning light kept going off on my radio for the past 6 months. I thought nothing of it because my power steering was working fine, and I took it to a mechanic, and he stated that it might be a defective "idiot light". Plus, the light did not go off during the winter; the warning only went off when it was hot, or very warm outside.
Well, today it was well above 90 degrees, and it went off on the radio before church. I left church, the warning came on, and I lost power to my steering. I went home, turned off the car, and just checked after 4 hours, and the steering is fine. What the heck is up with this? American cars....Where is the recall.....
