The power steering assist suddenly quit several times while driving; both at freeway speed and while exiting the freeway at about 15 mph. When the power steering fails the steering column would make a clicking sound, sometimes there would be a chime and the battery light indicator on the dash. Only one time the center console displayed "power steering." We narrowly avoided a crash while going around a curve in the freeway. The loss of power assist required exerting more force than normal to avoid colliding with the divider. When the power steering re-engaged without warning we swerved towards a truck in the adjacent lane. We took it to the nearest dealer who said it's a faulty ignition coil causing a short in the power steering. Cost quoted was $500 to fix in addition to $450 for the shifter cable that also went out.

After shifting the car into park on a small hill, the car began rolling backwards. I applied the brakes and verified the shifter and the dash display said the car was in park. When I released the brakes the car again began moving backwards as if in reverse, despite the indicators showing the car in park. After several attempts I managed to shift the car into drive and repark the car, which then went into the correct gear.

When I attempted to put my car in park the car kept moving. I had to drive to a safe flat area to stop it and turn off the car. The gear shift cable was ripped in half. I see this has been recalled on other years but not for 2007. I am also having problems with the power steering and the brake lights are malfunctioning. I entered my VIN on the GM site, but my car is not involved in any of the recalls. How is that possible when it is having the same identical issues as the recalled Malibu of other years?

When turning left or right or merging into traffic, the steering wheel clicks and gets very hard to steer like it's pulling to the side, causing me to overcorrect by steering in the opposite direction- it feels like I am going to lose control of the car and is very frightening but then it stops. It has happened several times over the years but is becoming more frequent. I have entered my VIN on the GM site but it says I am not a part of the recall. How is that possible when I am having the exact same problem" I am also having the problem with my brake lights- they go on when I am not braking and off when I do. I had to replace the gear shift last fall because it broke and my car would not stay in park. Is there anything I can do if I am not on the recall list" this is completely unsafe- I will never, ever buy a GM car again.
