Went to start car one day. Turned key and heard loud pop. Rushed to lift good and top of motor on fire. Luckily had extinguisher right inside garage door and immediately extinguished. Plastic intake cover was blown apart in multiple pieces. After searching on the internet I found there have been many of this same incident, somewhere claiming that it comes from a faulty fuel shift of valve or something. If you notice with low miles, this car is barely driven and always babied.

My father N law, N I were going to see a family member 12miles away from his home, when we stopped. At the convenience store for snacks, etc... we literally couldn't have been out of car 5 min, when store clerk yells hey someone's (Chevy) smoking? we saw it was his N went to investigate the problem I went straight to driver side of vehicle N popped the trunk(thinking it wasn't more than a blown radiator hose) lord N heaven was I wrong, the engine looked as if it were all on fire...I immediately pushed hood down N ran for an extinguisher luckily the store had a good one. This recall as the country N state N manufacturers, call it is seriously deadly, to B 100 percent honest it is flat out wrong. Something this deadly should B notified to all current owners, of the vehicles. I seriously doubt he would have ever purchased it used or new if he knew what could have happened if my(kids)his grand, were w us. Mistakes happen. Own up to them! that's what makes U who U are. Hopefully you won't damage him more with making this a 72yr old man who know has to pay more time, $$$, N just life for a mistake he didn't commit.

We have been having problems with our car starting. The battery has been replaced. We have disconnected then reconnected the battery, sometimes this works to start the car other times it does not. The power locks no longer work. One day the security light comes on, sometimes its not yesterday, we couldn't even get the car to start. Today, the car was running and the cluster gauges were not even working. We bought this car brand new out of the showroom. What a lemon it turned out to be. Sadly, it now sits in our driveway as it is not dependable to drive anywhere. There is a recall to replace the key rings, and an inset in the key slot or a cover on the key head instead GM should be recalling these models to replace the ignitions, since there are other people posting online about these same issues.

I was driving (with my children in car) and the car just shut off. I had no power brakes or power steering. Luckily, one child was in drivers ed & knew to put car in neutral & we coasted to a stop. Once I calmed down, I drove my monte ss to the dealer and described what happened. The kept car for a week and insisted there was nothing wrong! I drive 1-3 hrs for work daily and I didn't trust the vehicle on interstate. I purchased another vehicle 6 days later but gave this car to my child for in town driving. I was never the wiser until I heard about the recall yesterday & it's description. The monte should be involved in recall too. I was preparing to purchase a new Impala but now I believe GM is still not being honest about all the makes & models involved with ignition problems.

Went out to start car. Turned on key, set radio. Then turned key to start engine with a resulting loud explosion from under hood. In hurry to get up hood and extinguish fire experienced burns on hands from lifting hood and a fuel line that was squirting fuel/flames. Fire extinguisher extinguished flames. Upper intake manifold is blow apart with multiple sensors destroyed. Thank god this happened at home with an extinguisher handy and not driving down the road with no time to slow down.

My 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo has been experiencing electrical problems since I have owned it. The cruise control comes on without being selected and then the heating/cooling systems goes off and on by itself. The turn signal goes on and off. Sometimes it will work sometimes it will not. The fuel gauge does not register correctly goes up and down so I am never sure what is in the tank. Occasionally the car will not start at all even though the lights work, the radio plays, and everything else will operate inside the car. I will sit and wait a while. After about 15-25 minutes I will try to start it and then it will start up. This has been happening more and more. I have talked to other Chevy Monte Carlo owner and they have had the same problems with their car.
