S-10 Pickup LT 4.3L V6 Vortec

1999 Chev S-10 w/V6 4.3L Vortec has been very reliable. Was driving the x-way, truck was running well and the engine simply stopped, like the ignition key was turned off. Cranked but would not re-start. I thought it was probably the fuel pump, spark coil or crank sensor. Towed home. All the things I thought could be wrong checked out okay. I never would have guessed that an engine that was running well would suddenly quit and not restart due to a worn distributor cap and rotor. I would have expected drivability problems ... hesitation, stumbling, stalling. I scraped the cap terminals and cleaned the rotor and the truck started but misfired badly. Put on a new cap & rotor, it started right up and runs fine.
