GM special policy 06020 tailgate support cable replacement. I own a vehicle in the years covered under this recall. Go Chevrolet in denver Colorado refused to fix this as they stated I did not qualify. In short another dealership was willing and is going to fix the issue for free under the recall. My complaint is that go Chevrolet management and service technicians are not trained or not willing to schedule the appointment to fix a defective part as they are worried they would have to pay for it. I have also filed a complaint with the dealership. Sincerely, pat

While deer hunting in Maine in Nov 06 I was taking the deer off the roof of my cap when the cables both broke and sent me flying to the ground. I was very lucky and only twisted my back a little but it hurt. When I looked at the cables they were both rusted completely. I have owned 3 Blazer and their system for the tailgate was great. Never a problem. General Motors should repair this for all of us S10 drivers. Right now I have parachute cord holding up my tailgate.

In June 2006 I was loading a small table and chair set into the bed of my 2000 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck. I was in the bed of the truck, walked from the cab to the back and stepped onto the tailgate. I reached down to pick up a small, light-weight chair and both tailgate cables snapped letting the tailgate drop down quite unexpectedly. I jumped back to avoid injury to myself. The tailgate was slightly damaged. I'm told by my local dealership, holler Chevrolet in winter park, Florida there is no recall or special bulletin issued for my truck concerning the cables. There are recalls for other models in the same and other years. If the cables on all models General Motors pickup trucks are the same, I believe all models should be recalled for repair. I have an appointment at holler Chevrolet December 7, 2006 to have this repair done at a cost to me of $75. If or when there is a recall, I believe I should be reimbursed this amount of money.

While unloading pieces of a cast iron tub, as I slid the tub onto the tail gate of my 2000 S10, one of the tail gate cables failed. The tail gate moved slightly but the other cable was able to take up the rest of the weight. The cable appeared to be very rusty inside. This appears to be similar to an issue remedied on the larger trucks but not dealt with on the smaller size trucks. (the day listed below is an estimate.)

The right side tailgate cable on my truck broke while loading a wood log. Thankfully the other cable did not break or the log would have fallen on my leg causing injury. I have inspected the left cable and it has signs of corrosion under the plastic covering as well. I have a 1983 S10 P/U that uses steel bars that have a pivot point so they can hinge when you close the tailgate. I have never had this problem with that design, and they still work properly. I have heard about the recalls for the full size trucks for this very same problem. It looks like it needs to be extended to the S10 family as well.

I stepped up onto the tailgate of my 2000 Chevrolet S-10 ZR2 and both cables snapped in the middle. I only weigh 150 lbs and they should have not snapped like they did. When I looked at the broken cables, I found that they were rusted on the inside and that is what caused them to fail. Luckily the tailgate was not damaged when it broke when it hit the bumper.
